Valve spring

I put a LT4 hotcam into my 94 LT1 with 1.6 roller tip rockers and was wanting to know if I needed to put different springs in?

My dads friend who supposedly has done this multiple times says that you dont have to and it will be just fine but I don't want to spend all this money on this engine just for it to start messin up on me. Cuz I thought that you always had to change the springs if you changed the rocker ratio.

And If I do have to get a new set of valve springs what would you guys recommend?

Re: Valve spring

im going to say your going to need new springs. cause from what i checked out is your going from a 460 to 525 lift and unless someone set up your springs for a possible bigger cam there not going to b enough. i do work in a machine shop where i do cylinder heads ( mitsubishi my specialty) have another guy who does sbc and all the rest (hes showing me all that stuff now) ill talk to him tomorrow and let you know for sure

Re: Valve spring

i did some checking and if im right about cam diff. you need to pull a spring off and check to c if u have enough room between retainer and seal on open end. and you need to check for seat pressure on closed end you might not have enough. and as you prob know you need all that for it to run right. if im wrong on cam diff and there closer in size then you should b ok. but personally i still check for a few reasons even if your cam size r close your springs still could b weak do to milage ( if theres a good bit on your heads) i hope that helps you out. if im wrong just ignore me.

Re: Valve spring

You HAVE to put new springs on with ANY cam bigger than stock. Period. Find out what springs are used in the actual LT4 Hot Cam kit that GM sold and use those. I believe you can also use LS6 yellow stripe springs from GM as well but that's pushing it on the lift.
