I have a couple of LT1 questions
Ok I am just curious on a few things on an LT1. I found one and the guy wants $400 for it, I am not to keen on the pricing is this around the price? Can anyone post a general pricing scale? I do not know miles/what it came out of... Also will this engine bolt up to the 700r4 trans?

Re: I have a couple of LT1 questions
400$ really isnt bad if it comes with the harness and ecu. I paid 1k for mine but it only has 15k miles on it and it came with the t56. To anwser your question about the 700r4 bolt up, the anwser is yes. There are alot of guys running the 700r4 behind lt1s.

Re: I have a couple of LT1 questions
If the engine is complete, even without the harness and computer, the price might not be too out of line. Might ask for the stamping codes on the heads to ensure you at least can find out what year of vehicle provided it's engine. The heads are aluminum right? If they're cast iron then it's fairly safe to assume it's out of an SS Impala. Otherwise, if it has aluminum heads it could be out of a 92-96 Vette or 93-97 Camaro / Trans Am. The latter being most likely. The early LT1's had forged rods up unitl about 96. That's a plus. However, there are differences in the cam opti drive system and the early optis werent vented. All of those things shouldnt deter you if the bottom end is in good condition and the motor is complete. There are some good aftermarket products available for the LT1 format to build on plus, if you decide to perform an engine swap you might find that it's easier to source and purchase an aftermarket wiring harness or an LT1 to your car integration wiring harness to get it up and running. Street and Performance http://www.hotrodlane.cc can assist with a custom wiring harness. That's just one place that offers harnesses and conversion services.
As mentioned, the 700r4 will bolt right up. Early 93 Z28's had the same 700r4 systems that our 3rd gens use. So, no worries there. You'll just need the correct throttle body and brackets.
Happy hunting and good luck

Ok the guys just told me the engine is out of the SS Impala....... has 100k miles on it and the cast iron heads. Would the cast iron heads pose a problem performance wise.... I think the engines in the impalas run with lower compression.... I do not know if this is a major performance perk or plus

The price on the motor is very fair if not good, because the potential for this setup is amazing. I built a 383 with my core, had the iron heads ported and polished and runing a 503 cam. I am expecting to get around 400hp at the rear wheels on 10:1 compression. (pump gas)
