Re: Which Swap K member?

Just measured my car and the tires sit back just under 1/2 in for me. I measured from fender to tire on both sides of the tire. I came up with 3.5inches in front and just a hair over 3in in the back of the tire. Anybody else have these readings or could post stock readings? I havent driven mine yet more then on and off a trailer so I dont know about the steering. But with my luck I will have binding. I dont have anything hitting the K member though. It "just clears"

I just got my Spohn LSX swap K-Member, A-Arms, and coil overs in this week. My front wheels sit about about 1/2 back from center. I never measured before the swap to see if the front tires were centered but it looks like they sit further back than they used to.
My alignment is also way off. I put the upper strut mounts back exactly where they were and didn't adjust the tie rods at all. With the steering wheel centered the drivers side tire is turning slightly left and the passenger side tire is turning slightly right. I was surprised its this far off with the new parts since I was careful to mark everything and put it back exactly the way it was. I'm going to have to adjust both tie rods shorter just to make the car safe to drive to the alignment shop. Did you have this problem also?

Yea. My front was perfect and now the alignment is also way off. Everything you said is exact as well.

"My alignment is also way off"

I had a shop put mine in along with the new engine install. My alignment was off also. I had to take it in and get it re-aligned. All is well and good now.

Re: Which Swap K member?

Well I finally got around to getting a tune put on it just to drive around decently. 2 things. So far I have not experienced any steering binding. And this was driving though sub developments while tuning with numerous turns. Second. Before I started all this. I had 27.5in fender clearance from the ground to fender. From posts saying that their ride got higher with the K member, I threw in a set of Eibachs just in the front to offset this. Well its way too low for me now. The front now measures 26in. I prefer the higher ride so the factory WS6 springs will be going back in. Man I hate springs.....

Re: Which Swap K member?

im at about 28" in the front and i'm planning on lowering 2" with dropped spindles. that'll put me around 26". I think that is a good number from what i've seen on here. People run at 25.5" and are still good. i'll be at 26 - 26.5" from fender to ground.

Re: Which Swap K member?

i recently saw a picture of a bmr and a spoohn k member side by side from a members lsx build his name on here is neil and has one amazing z28 which is an understatment .. anyway bmr's looks better, stronger, and more profesional then spoohns k member.. also spoohns k member seems to have to many issues, which is y he orderd the bmr, he had the spoohn one first but had an issue with his tie rods hitting.. so its bmr for me.. which will be hopefully soon..

yours might not do it. ive been reading other posts and some people seem like theres do not do it. my car has never been in an accident, a friend of the family bought it new. but when i jack mine up the steering binds in to the k member. so if i drag race and go wheels up i have no steering until it gets weight back down on the wheels. did you do the a-arms too? as i said before that could be putting the steering linkage in a different place than factory. I know my k-member is notched to keep the tie rods from hitting. but they do anyway

Re: Which Swap K member?

I did A arms as well. As you , when jacked and the wheels hanging the inner tierod hits the k member. When down and driving it doesnt rub.

Re: Which Swap K member?

mine has a small rub even when down. ive got an entire moog front steering under it. i don't know what the deal is unless i just got a bad batch from spohn. i still have time to figure it out as i dont have a garage so my car is covered and napping for winter. come spring it'll be ready to go though.

Re: Which Swap K member?

Well after looking at the car for a couple of days the wheels farther back is pi$$ing me off. Has anybody threw in stock A arms to see if this was the problem? Blue, are your wheels setting back farther with the k member and factory a arms? I am all upset too as i gave my good A arms with new BJ's and poly bushings to a friend for him to use and if this is the case I gotta find a crap set and make them good. It seems most people with problems are the ones with the A arms.

Re: Which Swap K member?

Found this. Looks like its just the A arms..

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/susp...ims-spohn.html

One would think that after 3 years Spohn would redesign these.

Re: Which Swap K member?

I emailed spohn about the wheels sitting back 1/2in, they said that they aren't centered from the factory. I would like to measure a stock car to verify that.

Re: Which Swap K member?

No need to. Build a quick jig around a stock A-arm mount points and see if the Spohn piece fits
