lm7 block deal

Hey i wanted to get all of your guys opinion if i should buy a lm7 long block but is missing one of the valves on one of the heads. It has no accessories its just the long block the guy is willing to let it go for $150 does that sound like a good deal or would it be best to find a parts car for the swap.

Re: lm7 block deal

what else is included? the little stuff adds up real quickly. i bought an ls1 longblock for $300, but it had nothing but heads and rotating assembly. i ended up buying a 5.3 for another $300 just to get the sensors, covers, etc.

that is a great deal, just be ready to get the budget together for everything else too

Re: lm7 block deal

I would hold off. That is a good deal to someone that already has a swapped car and the motor grenaded an they just need another block to use. But you can get a complete motor with accessories and sensors and all the injectors and all that stuff for $500 being a 5.3, and if you try and source out the rest of the parts missing I know you're gonna spend more than $500.

Re: lm7 block deal

Are you doing a CA smog legal swap? I don't think you can put a truck motor into a car.

Re: lm7 block deal

LM7 can be bored to 5.7L, and pieced together cheaper than paying for a real LS1. I'd buy it. I don't know as I'd install it, or even rebuild it just yet, however.

Re: lm7 block deal

Buy it, sell the heads for $200, use the rest to piece together a partial engine or keep as spares

Re: lm7 block deal

I'd want to look the motor over before plunking down the cash... why is it missing 1 valve? I'd need that question answered to my satisfaction before I bought it. If it dropped that valve while the motor was running, don't waste your money.

Re: lm7 block deal

That's a good point, but how the heck is an LM7 gonna drop a valve? I'd say either manufacturing defect, or it got pulled for some other reason. We all saw that article in Car Craft where they fitted a well-used LM7 with the prototype Thumpr cam and a single plane, then twisted it to 6900 rpm with stock valves.

Re: lm7 block deal

The guy said that he does not know the ast of motor so which is the reason he's selling it cheap so I I'm thinking it might just be a scam

Re: lm7 block deal

The engine and trans are a good chunk of the money spent on these swaps, but i'm pretty sure the actual swap itself will be more than $500 unless of course you already have alot of the conversion parts.

It all depends on how in depth you wanna go with your swap as to how much it will cost. You'll need: Engine and transmission swap mounts, PCM tuning, exaust, a way to regulate fuel pressure, 255 lph fuel pump, LS1 wiring modifications - contact pocket for info on this, and i'm sure I'm forgetting some other important details. It's the little things in this swap that start to add up: radiator hoses, PS pressure hose, fuel lines & fittings, etc.

Does the engine come with the harness and computer? if not, that needs to be added in there too
