89 RS LQ4 Turbo project.

Well, I have lurked behind the scenes long enough. I just got this puppy running and I'm now in the tuning phase. I got lots of info and ideas from this board so I figured I would throw my junk up for scrutiny. Let me know what you think.

This car had a BBC in it when I got it. It was ok but nowhere near what I wanted. I already had the 6.0 waiting for a future project so I said hmmm.

I seem to be having problems uploading pictures so let me skip to the end. If you have any questions just post them.

Yep that is a truck water pump. I will be doing some street tuning in next couple days to see how this thing runs. I will try and get some videos and post them.

Sweet thanks, how were you able to get the ls1 intake/throttle body to work with the truck water pump? I thought there was some form of clearance issue?

Well because I'm not using cruise control I just cut off the little arm and that was it. Now because of my alternator placement I had to pull out the trusty old rubber mallet and give the upper radiator hose nipple some love & affection. It needed to rotate about 5-10 degrees but it seems to be work good so far.

Yeah I spent most of my effort on building the turbo kit. I didn't realize how hard it was going to be to get the harness to tuck in as neatly as your stuff. I'm really not happy with that part of the build but I think it will be easy enough to come back and clean up later.

Thanks for all of the help BTW. You are batting a 100% in my book.

Re: 89 RS LQ4 Turbo project.

I'm using a truck manifold on the passenger side and a F-body on the driver's side. I had to cut the truck flange off in order to clear the K-member. I then welded mild steel and a V-band. So far so good.

Re: 89 RS LQ4 Turbo project updates. She is starting to move

Well, I haven't been on here in a while so I figured I would post a quick update. I finally took this thing to the track and was very pleased .

I ran it one weekend exactly as I drive it on the street with the muffler attached and managed to go 11.2x @ 127 mph. After some suggestion from some other turbo guys, I disconnected the muffler. The next time out it literally lit my DRs up at about 60' so I had to back out of it. My ET dropped but mph still jumped to 131 mph.

My guess is if I can get a good pass in I should be able to get in the low to mid 10s @ about 135 on about 12 psi. At 3800 lbs with me in it, I'm feeling that!!!

What size turbo is that? Do you have any more pics of the accessory drive?
Nice work.

Re: 89 RS LQ4 Turbo project.

Well, I brushed the leaves and acorns of my car yesterday. This thing still tickles me every time I drive it! The last time I drove it I was going 10.6x @ 133.

I plan on going to the track this weekend to see if I can dip into the 10.4x-10.5x range. Wish me luck!
