Yes that was my vert. And yes I had different rims on it that pic was taken about 4 years ago at a car show that I won best vert in show. and I haven't gotten a chance to change my sig pic to the ta and I'm thinking I might do one with both in it.. we will see. And yes it was the same vert that I started the swap on. It was show worthy at one point till my ex got ahold of the keys..

Sorry I'm late, I've actually been keeping track of your build here and on NJFBOA, and I gotta say you sure got close, even with the direction change. Congrats on the marriage, and best of luck at boot camp. I know some people who did the grind themselves. You'll get the TA done soon enough.

BACK FROM BASIC BUT GOT STATIONED IN KOREA

ok well im back from my training.. that was sure an experience i wont forget.. wasnt as hard as i thought it was going to be tho.. but now the problem lies that im stuck in korea for the next year.. so my ta and my new GTO will be sitting and waiting for me to return.. yes i said new GTO.. while i was on leave between my AIT school and korea i test drove an 06 GTO just for the hell of it.. well i just couldnt resist buying it.. and i love it.. its an 2006 impulse blue ls2 6 speed.. black leather seats all power options except the sunroof.. i had the option to buy an ls series trans am or camaro for cheaper then what i paid for the gto but i think ive grown outta that faze for now.. i was tired of the hey look at me kinda car with power.. i would rather have that nice comfy ride and amazing looks with a **** ton of power and easy modding.. compared to that of the 98 to 02 trans ams or camaros.. yea they have the same motor.. well sorta i have the ls2 but they have a shitty ride quality.. anyway i still plan on finishing my trans am.. she is no longer in her nice lil storage unit tho.. i had to do some nice convincing with the wife to get the gto and well the storage unit payment was one that had to leave for me to get the car.. so now the ta is up in Pennsylvania at my uncles place wrapped up in a few tarps.. and will await my return from korea.. which i will then have to find a house to live in and then bring the cars there.. i plan on modding my gto slightly.. full exhaust, stage 2 clutch, some nice rims and some carbon fiber parts.. im actually really upset about the gto.. i would have thought that there would be a better aftermarket selection for them like the camaro or trans am.. but there really is almost NOTHING FOR THEM.. and it makes me mad in a way.. but in another way it just leaves less money to be spent on the gto and more to be spent on the ta.. soo we shall see where it goes..

i have been trolling the ls sites recently but i still have to say that THIRDGEN.ORG IS STILL THE BEST SITE THERE IS TO BE ON AND I AM PROUD TO BE A MEMBER FOR SO LONG... all the other sites are boring and dont have the warm feeling of family that this one does.. there has been many times i came here asking for help with a problem with my car and more then one person jumped to helped me.. with the other sites like ls1tech if ur not running a 9 second quarter mile or have a **** ton of money dumped into a camaro or trans am.. then u arrent worth the time of day.. what i guess im trying to say TGO.. i have missed u and everyone on here very much over the past few months and it is good to be back.. so keep on doing what u guys love to do..

it kinda sucks that when i bought it, it was a constant rain for about 4 days so the whole time i was able to drive her i didnt have a dry road in sight.. so i didnt really get to have any "fun" with her... but man does she move...and its soooooo fun to drive, i love having my wife in the car with me and taking off nice and easy in first gear but as soon as i hit 2nd get on it hard and my wife starts to scream.. man i love that..

Hey man, long time no see! GTO looks beautiful. I love those things, and they are def a rare car being made for only 3 years. Just don't give up on the 3rd gen! I've had all my toys over the years but my 3rd gen just stayed with me, parked in the driveway. I just couldn't get rid of her. And then the day come where I got the itch to build it, and here we are today.

Im currently stationed in korea so the build is on a stand still till i get home. But i just bought a new piece of candy for the trans am so be ready for a few pictures ! Also bought some long tube headers first the gto

 

ok guys ive got some GOOD NEWS!!! well after talking with the wife, she doesnt want me to mod my GTO because its the "new car" and theres "nothing wrong with it" now i have gotten back on the ball about the trans am.. and a new motor build for the near future..

as for the trans am it will be going to my buddy robs house to have the finishing touches done to it to get it street able before i come back to the states seeing that im still overseas in south Korea.. and the plan for it is to get it running and drivable.. then add a 72-92mm turbo.. probably a 8xmm turbo.. and under boost to be able to drive it and have fun while im building the new motor for the car.. which will be a forged 6.0L LQ4 408 stroker LS motor with ls3/l92 heads and intake which the turbo will be added to.. the car will no longer have a plan for a daily driver as it did before.. but a car that i drive mainly on the road course and drag strip and to and from each.. so it will be on the street but only to and from track use.. probably even a tow bar for a small trailer for tires and tools..

i look at it this way.. the 3rd gen is SOOO MUCH CHEAPER to build up suspension wise then the gto or a 4th gen.. and there are a lot more parts available for the 3rd gen then the gto.. and if for some reason the motor in the gto goes i have a nicely built spare waiting to go in minus the turbo..while i rebuild the one that blew.. soooo hopefully we will see some nice progress here soon.. i come home september so the car will be street-able by then.. hopefully with the turbo..

UPDATE!!

lt1 motor swap is SOLD to a friend here in korea and the same friend that is build my trans am is going to be building his car.. car to be determined!!

NEW lQ4 short block is paid for and awaiting on arrival of my trans am.. also i purchased a cam kit for the car. its the 228r cam 228/228 .588/.588 112lsa. i know that the cam is not optimal for the ls3 heads that i will be running BUT it was to good of a deal to pass up on, i got the springs and pushrods to go with it and it was less then half the price of a new kit AND only had 500 miles on it.. so my plan is that when i go turbo ill take that kit and put it in my gto.. also have ls7 lifters, double roller timing chain,and a few other small things on the way

also i purchased a full body harness and plastic tank with sending unit from a 2000 z28 for the swap cuz im still going to be running the 4th gen interior so everything will be just plug and play just like the lt1 harness.. just didnt feel like doing a conversion to much effort for the same cause if u ask me.. ill have updates and pictures as soon as he can get me some

tubular k member in the works also.. now i have a question do i still need hawks swap headers with a tubular k member??? i have a feeling im going to be making my own cuz im not paying that much for some freaking welded pipes that still dont fit "perfectly"

 

That 228 cam should make awesome power down low AND up high. It's not a huge cam to complement the 6.0 and those heads, but you should be happy with the power curve it produces. As far as the tubular K, not sure what headers will fit or not. Pretty sure 4th gen headers are just too far off to fit into the bay of a 3rd gen, with or without a k member. I have heard of some guys buying a cheap set of hooker or dynomax headers and then cutting and welding on LS1 exhaust flanges and slightly tweaking the two middle primaries to work with the flange. Sounds like a good idea to me, and I don't see why it wouldn't work.

 

yea thats what i was thinking about doing for the exhaust because i dont wanna pay that much and then take it off when i do the turbo.. so i plan on getting some cheapy pacesetters or something and cutting them up.. we will see how it goes

 

Small update.. I ordered my L92/ls3 heads yesterday.. got them for a steal at 450 shipped! Going to be ordering my Pa racing tubular k member with in the next few days just need to keep an eye on my account balance before I can do so. Also found a ls3 intake with injectors and fuel rail for 289$ shipped! That's going to have to wait till next check tho..

Lq4 short block
228R cam with push rods and springs
L92 heads
Ls1 gas tank with sending unit
Full body harness from headlights to taillights
Full 02 trans am fiberglassed dash painted gloss black to replace my broken one from the 93 T/A

Trans am is planed to be at builders house this comming weekend. If all goes well the plan is to have the car stripped down back to the shell up on jackstands with the k member out. Hope to have pics of progress up for you guys soon!

Also I have seriously been considering throwing a t76 turbo into the mix of things.. I know my bottom end isn't built for it but that will come with time. I found a stainless exhaust kit that would be the cheapest way of doing it and should only need to be modified slightly to get it to work.. but I will tackle that when it comes time for exhaust work

well my car finally got to my buddys house.. my dad and uncle dropped it off with my new truck (yea i bought a truck see picture below) soon as his school is over for the year it will be moving pretty fast with the build but for now it will just be a weekend thing.. Thats my buddys 2000 trans am.. built 6.0l stroker motor he built by hand.. to say the least he could run low 10s if he could get traction.. and its all motor..

and this is my new tow rig.. got it at a steal for 3K!!! i know the guy, it not anywhere near perfect but it drive train is great and thats all i care about.. 5k on a newly rebuilt motor and 10k on the trans and a new transfer case.. its a 99 silverado 2500 HD and yes its sitting on 36s

gatta see how the money situation is when it comes time for exhaust.. if i can swing it i will be going boost but for now my main concern is just getting it running.. i will do boost in the long run tho so somewhere down the line i will be putting a turbo on this thing and forging the bottom end

 

ok guys well the army ****ed me again and now im going to be moving halfway across the country to Oklahoma to go to FT. Sill.. well i have to much baggage as it is.. and the wife is constantly bitching about the car.. soooo the swap is off.. all the ls parts i bought will be installed into my gto which will make it a monster.. me and her came to the agreement that if i got rid of the ta then she cant bitch and complain about what i do to the gto.. which was the whole reason i started the ls swap to begin with.. so if u see anything u want let me know.. everything but the ls parts are for sale.. car is for sale with the tt2 (arrent perfect need to be fixed but still driveable and hold air just fine) and has the 4th gen dash swap done already.. new carpet and all

 

Sorry to hear you have to get rid of the car, but at least you can do whatever you wish to the GTO. Are you going to part the car out, or sell it as a whole? I may be interested in a couple things if you are parting it out.

might actually be able to save this one guys.. but im not holding my breath.. all parts i bought for it are going into the gto.. the ls3 heads are for sale.. selling them might bump me back up to where i need to be and just do a cheaper build for ls1 instead of a ls3.. figure if i can save it and keep it.. get it running first, mod later.. keep your fingers crossed guys
