Going from carb to EFI....what fuel system?

Ok I'm looking to tackle my fuel system here pretty soon. I was just kinda confused on what to do. Im doing a LSx swap in my '85 camaro and originally there was a sbc 383 carb setup. Now since I'm switching to a EFI setup, what exactly do I have to change? I wanna keep the stock tank in, so do I have to get a different fuel pump? What about getting like a in-line boost a pump along with the corvette fuel filter (with the built in FPR). Just trying to see what to do before I start ordering parts. Thanks guys!

Pick up a TPI car in-tank assembly, pop on a GSS340 fuel pump, and you're off to the races.

EFI sender from ANY 3rd gen V6, TBI, TPI etc will get you started. This set of fittings/lines

And you're ready to go

Your carb chassis wiring will not have a 12v leg for the fuel pump so that means you need to run a wire from your new fuel pump relay all the way back to the sender you just installed

i'm in the same situation and going with the TPI sender (like kevin mentioned) and pocket's diagram. just need to come up with the money to get it all together. Rediculous that the fuel line setup is costing me more than any other single purchase i've made for this swap yet (well, not counting the longblock....)

You using factory LSx PCM/ECM? Do you want/need to use the charcoal cylinder EVAP system?

If so, swap to the 4th gen ls gas tanks with the built in EVAP system which works with the factory LS1 PCM. Need to do the sending unit mod so it works with the stock thirdgen gas gauge. talk to Lonnie on this forum from Lonnies Performance. He can set you up with a racetronix fuel pump kit with modded thirdgen style sending unit.

Else keep the thirdgen tank and run TPI based intank walbro kit. Cheap would be to find fuel lines from a TPI based car and swap those hardlines onto yours. Else, run your braided lines up front of the car to the rails.

Being an 85, did that car originally have an electronic fuel pump since it was probably a factory EFI car? So the wiring should be there if it was an original EFI car.

An '85 isn't very likely to have been EFI, especially if V8.

I've done both the 4th gen tank and TPI pick-up in the stock tank with a Walbro 255 pump and a Vette filter. I think I lean toward the TPI pick-up approach.

Surf Ebay for the NASCAR parts dealers. AN fittings are reusable and they offer bulk hose ends cheaper than new

Yeah the price is up there when you factor all the fittings, lines, filter,pump,etc...

Yes using the ls1 pcm just getting worked into the 3rd gen harness. It was a LG4 motor before and was carb, not an EFI

Thanks for the info, I'll check them out. Still haven't found anywhere to get a in-tank fuel pump setup.

Re: Going from carb to EFI....what fuel system?

How did everything work out? I to have a 85 so I'm picking up my 88 tpi fuel sending in hopes that it will plug and play in my carbed car. I have the pink, black, tan wires inside my car coming from the plug. I did some research and found out black is ground, pink is the level wire & tan is supposed to be the fuel pump power wire. Fingers crossed.
