when i was looking into doing LT's, i had gotten 2 collectors that had bungs welded in already. i guess it depends on how you route your y-pipe, or are you doing duals? i'd put them somewhere on the y-pipe close to the collectors.

what kind of y-pipe is it? all the one's i've seen have them going in from the side (the side closest to the motor/trans). it would be easier to wait until you have the motor and exhaust in the car before placing the 02's so that you don't run into any problems and have to plug holes and reweld.
if it's a perticular brand y-pipe, someone might be able to tell you what they did with theirs...
as for putting them in the headers, just put the headers on the engine and see where you have the clearence for them.

You'll want the O2's as close to where the pipes merge as possible. The further downstream the sensor is, the longer it takes to get hot and the less efficient they become. If you get them too far from the engine, they won't get hot enough at all and they will constantly throw your A/F ratio out of whack once the engine goes into closed loop.

with my heddmans i put them as close to straight up as possible and didnt have any clearance issues. These were longtubes with D ports.
