First ls1 swap questions
I am getting ready to swap the L98 out of my Camaro for an LS1 and have been doing some research and still have a couple questions. These may have been answered before, but I can't find it. The engine/trans is out of an 02 ws6. LS1 block, LS6 intake, T56 trans.
1. What is the weight of a stock flywheel? I have been looking at light weight flywheels, but must of them weigh more than the stock 16lb my Formy had.
2. How big of a cam can you run with no cylinder head mods? I'm not looking to run anything huge, its just a daily driver, with probably some autocross. I had been looking at the 02up LS6 cam, but it doesn't seem to be as popular around here. This car will be driven on the highway frequently, so I would like to keep it mild enough to get about 25 mpg on the highway, which is what it got with the stock L98.
Any advice or sugestions is appreciated. Thanks, Ryan

Re: First ls1 swap questions
1) Comparable to your SBC flywheel. After seeing several aftermarket lightweight flywheels come apart totaling the cars and nearly putting the drivers in the hospital Id suggest sticking to the stocker
2) You cant go wrong with a LS6 cam. Remember to get the springs with it, stock springs wont handle the extra lift. That or a mild cam without excessive duration should net you well over 25mpg with the T56. You can even drop the rear gearing substantially to 3.73/4.11 without much mileage drop because 6th is that high

Re: First ls1 swap questions
Maybe I will wait on the flywheel until I can aford a better bellhousing then. I'm glad somebody else likes the ls6 cam, I've heard LS1 heads flow similar to LS6 heads, just have smaller combustion chambers, not sure if thats true, but if vettes were 405hp, I would think I could be close to that with a few other bolt ons. Thanks, Ryan
Re: First ls1 swap questions
The heads flow differently. They're another good OEM part thats been proven over and over again. GM notcied they work well in almost all cases so they also put them on LS2's, alum RWD 5.3's and FWD LS4's
LS6 heads, cam, intake, headers and come sort of free flowing intake system will put you right around 400
