5.3 in a 85 z28

i have been doing the research on this i wanna do a carbed 5.3 swap. i read u can do the basic swap for $2500, now my question is could i do this. This would be my first full on motor swap by myself, i know my around a car its what im going to school for after all and what time frame would this take to do. I dont go back to school till spring so could this be done farley soon i dont work right now i got layed off so i have all the time right now.

It all depends on the parts you have lined up and if you have done your research.

You are going to be hard pressed to do this for $2500. Its the little things that add the cost to these swaps (exhaust, fuel, wiring, motor mounts etc).

There is no set answer on timing. I would take the time now to read as much as you can in this forum as well as over on LS1tech.com.

I agree on all points

gotta do as much reading as you can. gather all the wiring diagrams you can, purchase a helms manual for your vehicle. even going carbed, there are areas you need to splice and rewire in your car.

$2500 is really not going to cut it. the carb swap stuff alone will eat a good chunk of that budget. then comes the exhaust work, all the accessory stuff (since the truck stuff doesn't fit), and any adapters you need transmission wise. If you have *lots* of time, you can sit back and hunt for deals (my route), but its going to be a while.

if you haven't done a motor swap before, this is going to be a challenge, definitely not what i'd recommend for a first time, but its doable if you do your research and take your time
