Need help understanding the torque arm mounts ls1/t56
Hey guys,Im ordering all my swap parts..mostly from hawks.I need a clear understanding about the options of mounting the torque arm and the advantages of relocating it or not.
My plan is the buy the hawks motor and t56 mount package, but I noticed they sell 2 type of ls1 t56 cross members:
Part #HT-T56XM
Part #SP-LSXT56XM
Now I do plan on getting longtube headers eventually which the first crossmember is the better choice. Then I found this torque arm mounted with the cross member that they sell aswell:
Part #SP-332
This gives me a new torque arm with t56 mount and optional driveshaft loop. But my question is,since i want to get this on the road asap. Can I A)use my stock torque arm with the t56 and just buy the double hump cross member B) Buy the new torque arm with cross member and ditch the stock arm.
What are the pros and cons of a trans mounted arm compared to a relocated arm mount? I dont plan on making much over 400hp to the wheels and its a street car which rarely sees track time.

I'm in the same situation as you. I think I will most likely go with the double hump since I want true dual exhaust it might make it easier

I wont be doing true duals but maybe long tubes with 3inch collectors and 3inch y pipe later on.I still want to confirm if I can use my stock torque arm with the t56 or should I relocate it from the start.

Yes the stock TA fits the T56. Early TAs had the ridges reversed in the bushing but even those are no sweat, just swap the bushing into the T56 mount
Go with the double hump crossmember even if you're not running duals. Its really difficult to cram tubing under the trans and make a Y before that section. Most people including myself Y-ed just after the tailshaft
