My 91 Camaro LS1/T56 Swap
Hey guys ive recently decided to make the big switch.
Im headin to get engine and trans this upcoming weekend, and tonight i pulled out the fuel tank to put in the much needed Walbro 255.
Planning on just doing headers, a nice intake and calling it good for now.
There's already 4.10's in it, so itll be plenty peppy

Wow, another member that doesn't go for the red painted aftermarket stuff. We're a rare breed, you know...
Either don't get sticky tires, or don't do clutch drops with that 10-bolt. It won't stay peppy very long if you do both (ask me how I know).

Re: My 91 Camaro LS1/T56 Swap
Why are you selling the pedals if you're going with a T56? You can re-use them, just do a search in here for my little remedy for making the 3rd gen pedals work with a 4th gen master cylinder. It cost me a whole $5.

Re: My 91 Camaro LS1/T56 Swap
The 3rd gen pedals are better than 4th gen ones, FYI. They're a lot more sturdy and will give the firewall more support when bolted down.

Re: My 91 Camaro LS1/T56 Swap
yeah I was waiting on alot of parts, can barley get my hands on a f-body main alt. bracket.
gettin ready to go tap the water pump for the head crossover tube.
this weekend gotta place my o2's on the y-pipe, lay the harness out, extend it to reach inside the car. install new throttle cable, button up the pedals.
i think by Memorial day weekend itll b ready to fire

what are you going to use for power steering? I figure a stock ls1 unit, but as far as the lines go?

i have the stock ls1 unit as well, waiting on the brace that goes behind the pulley. you need a hi-pres. hose for a 98 Camaro.

it runs! doesnt idle right, so gotta get a scanner hooked up. idles rich and when you stab it, it wants to stall.
still gotta install the wonderful pedal assembly and bleed the clutch out.
then its time to drive

Re: My 91 Camaro LS1/T56 Swap
Engine 66k - had water pump, full intake, and exhaust manifolds on it - $1,200
Trans 25k, Clutch, Slave, Tick Master, Short Throw, PS Pump, Engine Mounts, Pedals, Remote Bleed - $2,000
Swap Mounts, Manifold flanges, and pipes to build a Y - $150
Engine harness and ECU - $250
Belt, Belt tensioner, Alt, Idler, Starter, and all the brackets - around $300
Dual fuel rail instead of running a regulator - $50
Coils, Coil Brackets, Coil Harness's - $100
Walbro 255 Fuel Pump Kit - $100
Coolant Hoses, PS Hoses, Misc. Gaskets, TB, sensors, MAF, and all other misc. things - around $250
new o2's - $100
Cam, Springs, LS2 Chain - $250
Cold Air Intake Setup $100
Also I ported my MAF and TB - $150
so dang near $5,000 I got alot of things used, but if you searched and waited for the deals, you could do a little better.
Find a donor car and save some money
Or you go Auto Trans you can knock aleast $1,000 right off.
Also if you find an iron engine you can save a couple hundred

Re: My 91 Camaro LS1/T56 Swap
i appreciate the info....with all the reading i have been doing, i think i'm leaning towards doing a 6.0L LQ4 or LQ9 with a cam, LS6 intake and adding the LS1 accessories. Looks like I may be able to start buying parts...just need to find more room to hide stuff from the wife! haha

Re: My 91 Camaro LS1/T56 Swap
Well, I'm hoping to join the LS1 crowd too. I've had a good time with the old SBC stuff over the years, but its time to go LSX power and I can't friggin wait!!
I'm working on buying a wrecked 99 LS1/T56 car now, I'll know next week if I'm the lucky (or deepest pocketed?) owner.
I'm just plannong on headers, fuel pump, and clutch for now until I get all the bugs worked out and learn more about the LS engines. With my 4.11 gears already in the 9", I'm expecting a nice running, durable car.
