Stock LS1 1/4mi Time

Contemplating a LS1/T56 swap on my 87 camaro and wondering what the typical 1/4 mi time is with a stock LS1 in a 3rd gen? What about with a cam?

Re: Stock LS1 1/4mi Time

Assuming roughly 200lbs lighter than the typical heavy optioned 4th gen, a stock LS1 thirdgen should run low 13's with an automatic on stock street tires and NO converter, possibly high 12's in good air, and possibly 12's with a 6 spd. Most stock LS1's are low 13's on street tires. My stock auto/2.73 gear 4th gen went 13.4's at 104 in warm air. I'd expect a lighter car to run 2 tenths faster.

It really varies tho. There are stock LS1 6spd cars in light optioned 4th gens running mid high 12's near 110mph on radials, while others have run mid 13's at 104 like mine. Thirdgen should be 2-3 tenths quicker based on weight alone.

Cam, that will depend on the size of the cam and tune. If the weight is kept constant, your looking at a nice 80-90whp gain with a cam swap and supporting tune/exhaust/intake mods so thats near 1 second off the 1/4 and 7-8mph gain in trap speed. Some of the bigger cams will produce over 100 whp gains from stock motors.

So assume 300whp stock, thats enough to go mid 12's in a thirdgen with stall/gears/sticky tires. Stock stall and street tires with crappy 60 foots will end up going low 13's to high 12's.

Headers/LS6 intake/catback/tune is good for 340-350whp in a 6spd LS1 car. Thats good enough for bottom 12's maybe high 11's on a well setup car. Cam swap typically sees another 40-60whp and around 400whp you will have enough to go mid 11's. Abit bigger cam will do bottom 11's maybe high 10s if the car is light.

Again it really varies depending on how well setup the car is, the weight ofthe car, and the tune of the motor with a cam, and how well you can shift a 6 gear.

Re: Stock LS1 1/4mi Time

Yeah i went 13.4 at 104 which is an 8.75 1/8 mile at 82 mph or so. 2.0x 60 foot. Then I added headers/catback/mild tune with a 3200 converter and on same gear/tire I went 8.3x at 85.x mph in the 1/8, but this is now in Houston tx on a cold night compared to pittsburgh in a cool summer night. They wake up with headers/tune/converter if your an auto. Manual will wake up alot with good gear

Hoping to go out tonight to see what I can do on 315 nitto drag radials

Not exactly "stock", but close.

Berlinetta #1 (actually the 2nd one I did) - 2000 Z28 LS1/4L60E. Stock shortblock/cam, shaved 317 heads, LS6 intake, Hawks 1-3/4"x2-1/2" LT's, 3" catback (same thing it had with the ZZ4 clone 350), free-flowing 3-1/2" air intake w/filter in front corner of engine compartment. 3000 stall lock-up converter, Transgo shift kit in tranny. 3.73 posi, BMR torque arm, LCA relocation brackets, 26-9.50x14 Hoosier Quicktime Pro DOT slicks. No PCM programming except for emissions/torque management deletion and slightly quicker shifts. Ran a best of 12.4 @ 110 MPH at Heartland Park Topeka soon after getting it running, in crappy weather. Best 12.89 @ 106 at 5800' elevation Bandimere Speedway, was running low-13's mostly. 60' times in the high 1.8's. With LS6 cam and converter restalled to 3600, expect it to be consistently in the 12's at elevation this coming season.

Berlinetta #2 - 2000 SS LS1/T56. Completely stock longblock, including cam and 241 heads. Headers, intake manifold, and air intake same as #1 (except ran either open exhaust or duals). LS7 clutch, 4.11 gears in a 9", BMR torque arm (need to do some work in this area), same rear tires as #1. No PCM reprogramming except emissions and skip-shift deletion. Best 13.32 @104 MPH at 5800' elevation Bandimere in June weather. 60' in the high 1.9's, had been sorting out rear suspension and launch technique when experienced a rear suspension failure, haven't gotten it back together yet.

Re: Stock LS1 1/4mi Time

I can't give you a exact time yet, but in my 84 trans am swapped to a 88 formula manually windows and locks with lq4/t56 swap with TEA stage 3 5.3 heads and a tr224 cam I am shooting for bottom 11's if everything works right. I later plan on atleast 100 extra hp on the bottle.
