ls1 power steering pulley install

I bought a ls1 f body power steering pump without a pulley a while back and then bought a pulley off another member on the board. Trying to install it but there is this thick bushing or ring on it, don't understand how the pulley is going to fit over this peace? does it come off? here is a picture, but this is not my engine just someone else from the thirdgen site. anyone know?

Re: ls1 power steering pulley install

The f-body ps pulley is made of plastic and has a metal center around where it presses on. Did someone break the plastic part of the pulley leaving just the metal center?

Re: ls1 power steering pulley install

good call on the broken pulley white, glad to see you got everything straightened out 90

I'm digging through LS1tech, I know I read about a pulley that's a direct swap but has the access holes to get the bolts off without having to press the pulley off again. Made things super easy on my GTP, definitely worth getting a part number.....

You can use a truck pulley which is a metal pulley. That's what I did on mine.

Dan your right, back when i was looking it took me an hour of searching on the tech to find it, this is from my build thread on NECF:

"Swap cheat i bought a used power steering pump and it came w/o a pulley like most of them, and a new GM pulley is around $60 and does not have holes/windows so when you need to remove the pump, you must pull the pulley off, also the nicer billet pullies are usually $75-125. To save some $, i researched and found out that a p/s pulley from a 2004 Pontiac Montana 2WD 3.4L will work and can be bought from AZ for a mere $17 and has 3 holes/windows in it so the pump can be removed w/o having to break out a puller."

Just an FYI, although i already bought one of these, i have NOT tried it out, im trusting the thread i found on the tech so please try at your own risk (big risk at $17 bux lol) ill post again later on when i mount it just to verify it fits fine, unless someone beats me to it!

Re: ls1 power steering pulley install

I bought one of the nice billet pulley's from Turn One Inc. It was like $70, it was easy to install and it has openings so that I can take my pump off without taking the pulley off first if I ever have to.
