need help to settle debate

I have been looking into getting rid of my 305 TPI setup. I was told that I could get a complete LT1 and just run it off of my TPI electronics (as long as i mill the hole for the dist into the intake). But I have others telling me that it wouldnt work.

Does anyone know for sure if this will work or not?

Are these voices all inside your head, or are they actual people?

Nope, it won't work

now if you want to put a carb on it, then it would work.

where in FL are you located?

Yes it will work, but this isnt the best route to take. Dont fogret the LT1 intake isnt flat in the rear so a simple hole isnt enough. Either build up a pad and machine it flat or cut an angled washer to fill the void. The TPI ECM will need a custom flash to run the new engine

Here are instructions on how to drill the distributor hole for LT1 intake:
http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28/lt1intake_conversion/distributor.htm

Thirdgen.org member Z69 was and still might be selling the custom washer needed for the rear distributor for LT1, he had a few for sale months ago.

Also parts will be needed to set the timing such as a balancer with timing marks and the LT1 optispark block off plate/cover with built-in timing pointer. Summit Racing sells the cover here: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NAL-12367600/ and you can find a LT1 balancer with timing marks (Professional Products 80030) for under $100 on ebay.

In addition to a custom tune, some sensors might have to be swapped with TPI sensors such as the knock sensor but not sure on that.

Actual people unless im imagining them as well lol.

As for the machine work to the intake, That isnt a problem, I work at a tool and die shop with multiple cnc machines so i can do all the machine work myself.

I didnt even think about needing tune but i guess it could be an issue trying to find someone who could do a custom tune with a TPI ecm and program it for the LT1. Might just be easier to get a 350 block and build it up with an aftermarket TPI setup.

all in all I guess they were both wrong and both right. Thanks for the help guys
