Motor mount thru bolt access Q
I've searched thoroughly, but I can't find where this was a problem for anyone else.
Shown in the attached photo is the motor mount (passenger side) as attached to an '02 LS1 dropout. The halves are bolted together with a 7" long bolt installed from the rear. To get this bolt out, first it hits the dipstick and then the starter solenoid. I had to pull the mount off the block to get the bolt out.
I'm putting an LS1 into my '86 IROC using the Spohn conversion motor mounts.
So how should I install this thru bolt in the motor mount?
Do I pull the starter off (and hammer the dipstick out of the way) to install from the back, or do I leave the A/C and A/C bracket assy off and install the bolt from the front?

i just put both bolts in from the front so the nut is towards the back.

Dont ever hammer the dipstick
Id take the nut off first, then pull the 4x 15mm mount bolts from the block. Slide the through bolt out with the mount assembly removed

Thank you guys.
I guess I was being a little facetious about hammering the dipstick to help illustrate how goofy the factory install appears.
I did take it off by pulling the mount off the block.
I guess my real question is whether most people do the LS1 install by leaving the starter off or by leaving the A/C compressor off.
Looks like I'll be leaving the A/C off. I best make sure my k-member is notched enough to allow tools to install the brackets, etc.

I run the drivers side from the rear, pass side from the front. I dont have AC, so the bolts are easy to remove without taking anything off

I pulled the mounts off of the engine first as well because I was installing poly inserts into the 4th gen clamshells.
I had the starter out because I dropped the engine in from the top with a notched 3rd gen K-member, and had the AC compressor installed. I couldn't get the engine/trans into the engine compartment with the starter installed, and I installed the long bolt before installing the starter and dipstick tube.
If you aren't using the 4th gen AC compressor, and drop the K-member to install the engine/trans, you can install the starter and dipstick before mounting the engine to the K-member, and install the long bolt from the front as stated.
It really doesn't matter whether the bolt is installed from the front or from the rear.

I didn't realize that I would probably need to remove the starter to drop the engine in. And thanks to the dipstick, well, I think it will be just as easy to also leave off the A/C (more room for prying and aligning), run the bolt through from the front, and then put the starter and A/C back.

The dipstick is held on with one bolt and is simple to remove and reinstall.
