lt1 air intake setup recomendations.

Im making a new air intake setup for my lt1 swap. currently i have 2.5 inch piping. Will i notice any improvment going to a larger sized pipe? Im not really sure how much intake flow i will need. engine is in my sig. I dont want to overshoot and have a huge pipe under the hood.

it's the bends (turbulence) vs the diameter which should concern you more.

If you put a 6 inch pipe, the engine won't suck any more air.

i doubt you'll see much of a difference with larger piping. Im pretty sure theres alot of intake kits out there. Maybe even a complete K&N kit, looks clean!

I was thinking the same thing. It got me thinking though because i was looking at my maf and its much larger than the 2.5 pipe is. The k&N kit is way over priced. Its like $270 for a plastic intake. $$ per hp gained just isnt worth it. I was thinking mandrel bent 3.5 inch intercooler tube, polished and a 10 inch k&n filter.

get yourself an elbow and then don't overexamine it. The best method would be straight to a filter but you'd need to cut your hood. So, you must turn and that's why you need an elbow, some rubber adapters, clamps and then pipe it toward the ground

Alot of people just run to the hardware store and grab some PVC elbow, and tubing, and paint it black. $10 cold air intake, lol

Don't laugh because you don't get the heat soak that those of us with the pretty chrome ones get.

Bite the bullet and buy a good metal LT1 elbow coming off the throttle body. Over time, the stock rubber one will tear, leaking in air after the MAF causing the MAF reading to be off which will cause bad performance. I've bought a couple used metal ones for a fair price before from camaroz28.com and ls1tech.com classifieds.

From the MAF, build your own. One of these days, my plan is to go with a 4" setup that has the air filter going through and under one of the battery trays. Could buy all the pipes and reducer from the website below, or buy at least the 4" to 3.5" reducer there and then make a PVC intake.
