Long tubes, y-pipe & aftermarket torque arm?
Is there room to cross the driver side exhaust over with a Y pipe under an aftermarket torque arm?
I had assumed that there was, and I believe I've seen scores of pics here that do just that, but I've been talking with the owner of Midwest Chassis about his fabricated 9", which includes torque arm, but he insists that there isn't room to run the exhaust with a y-pipe behind the tail shaft of the trans. I thought there were a lot of guys doing exactly that. So... for those of you with Hawk's Long Tubes and Hawk's T56 crossmember, can I see pics of your exhaust? I want to send pics of other people's setups to him to see if he still thinks it won't fit, or if he could make a torque arm with the clearance necessary.
He has offered to provide a shortened torque arm with a crossmember that can be welded to my SFCs, but I'd rather stick to a more conventional setup with the torque arm attached to the trans crossmember. If I do go with the shortened torque arm setup, what effect will that have on handling? This isn't a drag car... I want to retain all of my handling capabilities.
BTW, here are pics of his fabricated setup:

Likewise, I'm also looking at the Moser M9, but would expect similar issues if it's a problem with the Midwest unit.

Re: Long tubes, y-pipe & aftermarket torque arm?
With that crossmember, no, atleast without scraping everywhere
With a Skulte or other hump crossmember, yes tons of room. Look at the last web on the TA where the main tube starts to bend up. From there to just behind the TA shackle mount on the crossmember is plenty of room to run the drivers side Y. TAs sit up in the chassis quite a bit so just a little extra room allows quite a bit of extra ground clearance

that was what I thought. I even asked if he could modify a Hawks crossmember (or make an equivalent) but he insists that it won't work. I found that Spike-Z is using their rear, so I PM'd him to see if he has pics. Between the fabricated rear and the T56 Magnum, I'm starting to venture into uncharted territory, and if I don't do my homework, I could wind up making a very expensive mistake.
