A few questions about mounts and K-Member
I have a few questions about what I should use for motor mounts and if the K-member needs to be notched at all. Im new to the swap and when I had the same motor in his 87 it was so close to the k-member that you couldnt fit a piece of paper by it. He had solid mounts and adapter plates for stock SBC clam shells. Heres a pic

first question
What mounts should i use?
second question
Do I have to notch the K-Member at all?
thanks

Which mounts do you want to use? Spohn / Hawks? Moroso solid SBC with adapter plates? Stock SBC rubber with adapter plates? ES Poly?
In that pic, it would have looked different with the Hooker 1.25" plates.

in the pic is moroso solid mounts welded to the k member and some sort of adapter plates with stock SBC motor side clamshells. I am getting them with the motor i bought from a friend.
I just dont want it to be like that and that close. Just wanted to know what everyone would reccomend to avoid this or do I have no chioce but to notch the k-member for the pan?
Thanks

DOH!!! i forgot to put that in. I perfer poly as ive been in solid mounted cars and its just not my thing really. If i have to do it as I have no choice then I will but id like to avoid solid mounts.

Then you'll need to order some new stock rubber mounts, and the new poly inserts, then grind the rivets off the stock mounts to replace the rubber inserts with the poly inserts.
Then throw those adapter plates in the trash where they belong, and order the Hooker 12611HKR plates. That'll clear nicely down under, but will be tight up near the HVAC, with the VC and the coils / bracket.

I still have my poly SBC mounts in the car. I was actually gonna take them out tonight as i didnt think I could use them. Good times as I dont have to now. If its close to the HVAC with the coils still clear it. I have a AC delete box if that helps at all. What are you running in your car?

Re: A few questions about mounts and K-Member
the adapter plates wont let it clear as the solid mounts where welded in at least a half inch farther back in his car. Mine are in the stock location. Im gonna have to run something different I guess.
my original thought was the Spohn mounts and LS1 motor side mounts. Dont know if that will be any better?

Re: A few questions about mounts and K-Member
The spohn mounts should set the motor in the same place as the standard 1" setback mounts designed to work with SBC clamshells. Either way, you're notching the k-member or getting one of the multiple aftermarket pans that are now available.

Re: A few questions about mounts and K-Member
With the poly mounts, stock SBC clamshells and Hooker 1.25" plates, there should be NO need to notch anything.
Now that I have the 1" setback in mine, I can see that 1.25" would be best, and the only such option is Hooker. $80 isn't cheap, but bolt-together-and-go has to be worth something.

Notching makes you feel better, and is probably a good thing to do to avoid future headaches. I'm using the Spohn mounts with stock rubber bushings and while yes...its tight, I'm not complaining.

Re: A few questions about mounts and K-Member
Thanks guys for the help and so far the hooker plates are what im leaning to as all I need is a quarter inch and im good. I might flatten that side on the k member abit. Heres another option. Is it worth going with a aftermarket K-Member.
What set ups do some of you have on your cars. Im pretty much a newbie to the swap besides what I have read
