LS1/M6 people with dual exhaust....come on in!!

What are you guys using for exhaust routing? I have a Hawks crossmember and want to do a dual exhaust. Either gonna go with dynomax or magnaflow bullet mufflers with a x-pipe and dumped right before the rear.

Just curious how you guys routed your exhaust and if there was any "universal dual exhaust kit" you might of bought and started with?

I've seen a few from summit and was wondering if they will work. If you guys have pics please post so I can get an idea!!! Thanks

Re: LS1/M6 people with dual exhaust....come on in!!

I bought a slightly used exhaust from somebody just to use to get my engine started and car driving. After things get sorted out I'll change to a different setup. What I bought is duals straight back into Flowmaster single chamber mufflers before the axle and no crossover. This is not the way I would recommend. It will be loud, brappy, and lack balance.

What I am thinking about long term is to place a couple high flow CAT's near the headers because they control sound better than a muffler with no power loss, then go into a Y-pipe to 4" single over the axle to a muffler in the stock location. Without the CAT's this system would be obnoxiously loud.

Im not part of your fancy LS1 crowd but I do have a T56 with a fancy crossmember:

Dual 2.5 inch pipes

They run into a single 3.5 inch pipe, then over the axle into a Dynatech Splitflow - then out the left in a dump under the bumper.

This is a lowered car, it looks a lot lower in that picture than it really is, but I still think that maybe my clamp there is loosening up and it's lower than it should be. It's still about 4 inches, and the lowest point is the clamp itself.

To get a better idea of the routing under the car, this is when I didnt think I needed to go over the axle with it... I was wrong.

It's not technically duals, but I think as far as the motor is concerned, it's a dual 2.5 setup. I think a dual 3 into a 4 inch mufflex would be just as easy to do with this crossmember, though. But my engine just didnt need it.

Every system I have seen with any non-bullet muffler dumping in front of the axles has hung really low. If your car is lowered, ground clearance will be an issue. If you go with bullet mufflers and turn downs you can get a nice system in there.

If you decide to go duals out the back, BMR has a panhard bar relocation kit that provides extra room for running over the axle.

Here is a link to some dual systems.

Re: LS1/M6 people with dual exhaust....come on in!!

This is almost exactly how I want mine done:

^^^Has same t56 and crossmember is just about the same as my hawks. Only difference would be the headers as those longtubes are from a standard sbc as I have a ls1.

I wonder how much a shop would charge to do a setup like this?

Re: LS1/M6 people with dual exhaust....come on in!!

I got quoted the other day for $550-$650 for the above exhaust made with the bullet mufflers included.

I thought that may be a bit expensive so was looking at the summit SUM-642125 universal x-pipe kit. For $90 I think I can't go wrong. The exhaust shop shouldn't charge too much to have these put on right?

For $650 the shop better include the custom SFCs and coating

Axle dump systems are so simple when compared to over-the-axle systems. Shop just didnt want to do it

Lol, seriously. Summit has this x-pipe kit for $80 now. So I figure any exhaust shop would charge maybe around $200 or so to put it on, assuming there will be some trimming.

I'm even looking at the summit turbo mufflers but curious if that will help quiet it down some, especially compared to the bullet type muffs. Man....what to do!?!?!? Lol
