LT1 Swap Wiring Harness Question
I have searched and read a lot but haven't found all the answers yet.
I want to do the LT1/T56 swap into my 1987 Camaro 2.8l t5.
My main concern is modifying wiring harnesses. I have no problem with electrical, but I would prefer to be rid of my stock 3rd gen harness. I was/am under the impression that it is only used to make the gauges easy to hook up.
If I'm going with all new Autometer gauges anyways, can I avoid using the 3rd gen harness?
I was hoping that I could use the stock LT1 harness, and find a way to wire the Autometer gauges to that?
Would this help? http://www.jegs.com/i/Painless-Perfo...oductId=744600
I want to go with the easiest option. Basically the closest thing to "plug-and-play" so any suggestions would be great!
What needs to be changed on the LT1 computer? all I know of right now is the VATS must be removed.
Thanks for any help

Re: LT1 Swap Wiring Harness Question
Stuff from the C100 is essential to the rest of the car. You'll have to keep atleast some of the wiring unless you do a full dash and everything swap from the 4th gen. Then all of the 3rd gen wiring is removed and all of the 4th gen wiring replaces it

Re: LT1 Swap Wiring Harness Question
I want to do as little rewiring/repinning as possible. The mechanical stuff, I can handle, the electrical can drive me crazy sometimes when I get to dealing with all sorts of wires at once

lol thanks pocket
Re: LT1 Swap Wiring Harness Question
The two big red wires provide 12v constant to the fuseblock, IGN switch and the rest of the car. The big ppl wire goes to the starter
Those 3 are irreplaceable. Using a stand alone harness with aftermarket gauges, you can fudge the rest yourself
For a simple no frills install, Id read and follow the 3rd gen harness prep thread and repin the body connectors on the LT1 harness to match the few pulled out and grouped from the 3rd gen harness. Fbody harnesses dont have a fuseblock attached so you HAVE to track down your stock fuse points and relays. B-bodys do to an extent, but are big and routed terrible
