new dude here

Hey all, New guy here. I am a car builder who has just aquired a new project. It is an 86 I got from a friend of mine who was going to take it to the junk yard. It has burned up wiring, roached interior,no drivetrain, but hey the body is cherry so why not.
Yesterday I bought a complete 6.0 vortec from a guy who rolled his 80,000 mile o1 gmc. I've never messed with a ls motor before so that's why I'm here. I hope you all can steer me in the right direction. I have been researching stand alone wiring, intakes, brackets to figure out what I need. Thanks for letting me in your world.

Re: new dude here

Go back to the guy and get the ECM. You can pick up a new wire harness and ECM if you have too, but if the truck is still together somewhere, chances are the ECM is still good.

Start by reading through the "LS1 swap" sticky in the top section of this forum.

There is a link within that tells you what you need to do when starting with a truck engine.

If the donor truck was 2WD, go back and get the transmission as well.

Re: new dude here

I got all the wiring for it, ecm and everything. The guy had it running for me to check out and when I went to get it all the wiring was with it. Hell he even threw the fuse box and steering column wiring in. The truck was a 4x4 so I didn't get the trans. I'll be looking for a 4l60e.
The bird had some melted wires in the engine harness but looks like the hot leads and starter wires are intact from the bulkhead. Not sure how to splice the new ls harness into that yet.
