turbo

Last winter I swapped a LS1 and t56 into a 1991 Firebird. The car is impressive but needs some more power I am wanting to do twin turbos probably a small one for the quick spool off the line power and a big one for top end. My question is what sizes of turbos should I be looking for and what is the best way to make all this fit under my hood?

Re: turbo

How much power you want? You want to keep all creature comforts? I'd say a MasterPower t70 or turbonetics tc76/tc78. These turbos will lite off instantly. A lot of people are mounting them on passenger side and having the down pipe fo down were the heater box is. I wanted a/c so I'm running mine in between the engne and radiator and running down pipe under passenger side manifold and replaced the fans with 2 pushers.

Re: turbo

Does anyone sell complete kits for that type of application or is there a lot of fabricating?

Re: turbo

You can buy the SSW Turbo Headers for $1000 then build a cross over and down pipe. But thats about it.. I'm using a truck manifold for the driver side (v-band welded on) and a home built manifold for the driver side. You can run truck manifolds on front but have to weld on v-bands and not want a/c

Re: turbo

Well its not my car I just do the work. He wants all he can get out of it but still be streetable right now the car tops out between 160 and 170 has another gear left just can't push any more wind. He street drives the car autocrosses road races and occasionaly drag race. He wants to be able to break the 200 mark and I can't remember what he ran in the 1/8th but he wants to shave at least a second off. he deffinatly wants to keep his ac and any other creature comforts. I am pushing towards the turbo because my background is in diesel and everything has a turbo lol so if I am going about it wrong let me know. we will be doing an ls6 manifold and cam for sure. All emissions have been removed including cats. We are guessing around 400 horse now and figure we need to gain 200 horse.
