Everything about SBC Gen III's and more
Re: Everything about SBC Gen III's and more
I was feeling badly that I chose a gen 1 383 to build over a gen III.The links speaks to to the thin wall sleeves and limited ability to bore them.Am I wrong???Comments please.

No, you're right for the aluminum blocks. Why the pressing need to bore?
With all the other advantages the Gen III design offers, I wouldn't let that be a deciding factor.
BTW, I build two 383's for my car, its a great engine when done right. 230/236 cam, Dart Pro 1 heads, RPM Air-gap intake. Ran 7.40's at 92 in the 1/8 all day long..

Id love to be able to punch the 5.7 blocks out to 4" to use the great cyl head choices for 6.0+ engines
Have read several success stories of people boring them out anyways without trouble, but Im still skeptical for the long term
