i got the chance to buy a 8 liter bbc truck engine . it has everything including a bad piston the cylinder walls are good it has between 20-30 thousand miles it was a recall motor . 344 hp / 455 torque whats the most i should pay for this in your alls opinion ? i'm thinking 500 ...

no it just uses a similar harness and computer, along with ignition setup.

Not much aftermarket for that engine, just so you're aware of that. And a blown motor is worth whatever someone is willing to pay, not like it has "value" like a good running engine.

 

Not if it's a BBC. I don't recall there being a 8.0L LSX.

 

maybe it's a 8 liter vortec , still it's got 344 hp an 455 lbs. of torque to start with
i was told they cam with forged internal not sure tho . but if they do a turbo will take it as far as i need it to go power wise . does the ebl flash for capible of running single coil packs ?

 

ebl flash is for OBDI systems, "vortec" motors are OBDII (at least in reference to the one you're asking about)

 

Are you talking about the 8.1?

If so it was essentially the LSx BBC and its the right place for the swap. However, its pretty gutless for having that many cubes. IMHO Id pass on it

 

nothing LSX about that engine in the way it's built. It's a bbc with similar ignition/computer as a lsx. More parts for it in the marine industry than the race industry though

 

our engineer here at work has one in his 34' baja. i would pass and find a good 6.0/6.2 to start with.

 

thanks for all the opinions i'm gonna pass on this after seeing how little there is in the aftermarket an how expensive it would end up being . back to the original plan of vortec heads an a lt4 in my little ol 305 .
