I was thinking about trying to use the 4th gen valve but ended up using a splicer to adapter the smaller hose for the thirdgen valve.

No updates, but I figured I'd post how I wired up the 4th gen headlight, dimmer, and foglight switches. Nothing fancy, but it should help some people out.

My bro sent me this for his 83z. 02 SS with 79xxx. Got it to a shell in 2 weeks, but selling parts is taking forever.

Got the intake piping complete and it clears the upper radiator hose nicely.

Since I'm using the 4th gen console I needed to find a place for the window switches. The cubbyhole is the perfect place for them. Some cutting, sanding, jb weld, more sanding, and some paint. Not to shabby.

Currently installing the BMR Trak Pak torque arm, which is almost impossible to find installed pics of. Ive got pics of maybe four different cars with it installed. I'll be running dual 2.5" exhaust out the back with Borla ProXS mufflers mounted under the tank. Once I get this welded up I can start on the exhaust, then time for a tune.

Re: 1986 IrocZ LS1/T56 Swap. Start Up Vid Added

Trak Pak is installed and all welded up. Install is pretty straight forward. I tacked up the side plates where I wanted them, then had a mobile welder come and finish the welds. I didn't want to take the chance with my cheap harbor freight welder, so $50 was cheap insurance to have it done right. I decided against the driveshaft loop for the time being. Two 2.5" pipes clear over the hoop nicely, but this thing hangs low. Probably going to switch out the rear sportlines with something else if I'm bottoming out everywhere.

A couple of curve ***** in the 82s & 83s:
1) If you do a tubular torque arm, the bushing carrier probably is not big enough for the new bushing... I got one from a 4th gen T56 car.

2) If you upgrade brakes, all the brake fittings are standard threads, NOT the metric of the 84 and on cars.... this is a challenge when dealing with the front to back hard line.

Nice car you have. Hope the finger heals.
Cheers.

Thanks Flip.

Was able to get started on the exhaust. Got the drivers side snaked over the hump, then the rain came. Hope to have more progress pics tomorrow.

Slowest exhaust build ever lol. Got the xpipe and over the axle pretty much done. Gotta add a mount or two. Waiting on some more piping so I can mount the mufflers. So close... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBys2...&feature=g-upl

Its fairly straight forward.

Mount pedals. I'd suggest bolting them down snug.
With the pedals mounted you'll beable to see where the brackets for the master cylinder contact the firewall
Using a sharpie mark where to drill the holes for the master cylinder bolts.
Make a template of the master cylinder gasket. You can also put the bolt holes in the template to make sure everything lines up.
Align the template up with the sharpie marks you made on the firewall and now you can mark where to make the oval for the master cylinder rod.
Remove pedals if you'd like, and drill out the marks for the master cylinder bolts.
Cut out the oval for the master cylinder rod.
Then just remount your pedals.

Hey Rich, do you think you could post an overall side view pic of your car? I have the same springs and want to get an idea of what my stance is going to look like with the LS1 installed. Thanks.

This is the best I can do for now. I'll get some better ones hopefully tomorrow. This pic is with zero miles, so it could settle down some after some miles. Hopefully not much since ground clearance is tight as is with the trac pak, and long tubes.

how big of a hole did you cut for the shifter? and if possible, can you measure from where the console bolts to the body, to the bottom of the hole for me? thanks!

Well she's got a street tune Hoping to have it dyno tuned in a few weeks, then we'll see what she puts down. Got a crap load of little things to touch up first though.

Alignment.
I'm def raising the rear of the car up, it just sits way to low for my taste. Needs to be raised maybe an inch higher.
Exhaust pipe is rattling against the upper pan hard bar. Need to fix that
Need a shield to block the air filter from the engine bay heat. IAT's are too high.
Need to install the AC compressor, and look into what lines I need to run. Plus wire up the 4th gen controls.
Etc...

But wow its a blast to drive.

Ive got the carpet, console, rubber shift boot, and everything covering it up. Its not difficult to cut with the motor and trans in the car. Remove the shifter from the trans and place a few rags over it so nothing finds its way inside the trans. Once the motor and trans are centered in the car, just dimple the four corners when your under the car. Connect the dots and a dremel makes very quick work of it. If you search you'll come up with the measurements, but I'd recommend using your own just in case.

Thanks for the side shot Rich. It does look like the rear is just a touch lower than the front. The car looks great overall though.

Are you planning on coming to the Florida Gathering in October?

Monster truck status lol. Had some brand new stock springs for the rear laying around, so I threw them on. A tad bit high, but I'm gonna keep them and sell the rear sportlines.

The Borla ProXS mufflers sound so amazing under throttle. They are very easy on the ears too.

I think it looks fine Rich. Do you have the stock spring insulators on in the back or did you use something else?

Yup stock insulators up front and in the back. Had them on with the rear sportlines aswell.

Forgot to ask earlier; got any info on the Florida meet?

Much appreciated!!! how much are you asking for the sportlines, and how much of a drop are they?

I was thinking you could do the hose mod on the rear springs if you wanted to drop it down just a little more in the back instead of using the insulators. My front insulators are messed-up on my car, so I am using 3/4" heater hose on the top coil in place of the insulators. I'm not sure what size you would need for the rear.

$100 Shipped. 1.3-1.8" drop depending on where you read it.

Started on a heat shield for the air filter. Should have it finished later this week. Pic below is a rough cut/sanding. Still need to test fit, and sand down the bottom so it sits flush. Weather stripping will seal it to the bottom of the hood, and some paint to finish it off.

Build thread is here: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/fabr...d-battery.html

Car looks nice, and the swap is clean. Your exhaust is interesting. You should def get some driving videos posted.

f-ing sexy car... Do you have the interior finished? I want to see that! I want a 99-onwards trans am donor car, and the more I get out of it the more worth it it is to me! I nearly did backflips when I saw the pic of the dash and console in your car! are you putting a carpet in? cuz I know you can get them pre cut or not, so I'd probs get a uncut one and cut just enough for stuff to be run through and the like. Could you completely rewire the car with the body harness of the donor car and like make custom tail lights or something? I wanted to make special LED tail lights anyways...

Interior is still a mess. Still need to mold the apillars, cut the dash pad, wire up HVAC controls, etc. I'd really like to find a dash in better shape before I do any of that though. Ended up re-using my original carpet, it wasn't in too bad of shape. You could lay out the entire 4th gen wiring like shr00m did, and just solder the thirdgen pigtails on for whats not compatible. There is more to it than that though. Heres his build: http://www.ms-fbodies.com/jade_ta.htm

Interior at the moment.

John's an awesome guy, very easy to talk to. Cait wait for the dyno tune and to see what this AI head/cam combo does.

We'll have to meet up for a cruise sometime.

Re: 1986 IrocZ LS1/T56 Swap. Start Up Vid Added

Finally went in for a dyno tune today. Final numbers are 420/395 on a DynoJet. Was expecting higher HP numbers but it is what it is. I know I should take it to the track for numbers that count, but honestly the car will most likely never see the strip. Autox on the other hand is allot more likely. Car definitely hauls, so I'm happy. Big thanks to John Weeks
