Re: How much fun will it be?
Based on what I've seen in magazine tests (that's the extent of my knowledge
), I would guess it makes a little more top end power with the Vic Jr. On the whole the engine may not feel as good as if you had the fuel injection with improved driveability.
MS3 is a good camshaft. I've had one in a 6.0L with Patriot 243 heads. If you want to make more power you shouldn't need to go higher duration, you just want more valve lift to use more of the head flow potential. 3.73 gear is a little mild for MS3 cam in a 6.0L with T56 trans. Car will drive better and be faster with a more aggressive gear.

Poke around LS1tech.com and see what people say about camshafts, and then come back here to chat about it. I think you need to orient yourself a bit first.

I could ask what is it with people that want to be spoon fed?
Seriously though, LS1tech has a lot more information than here and that's why I made the suggestion. I don't trust 90% of what I read here. You need to do some research over there. That's where I get most my info.

Re: How much fun will it be?
I do agree that Ls1Tech has a vast amount of info.but worse than here for sorting fact from fiction.I find that here you will get an honest opinion less biased to sponsors of the forums. From what Ive seen the ms3 is a great cam.. so is the ms4 but I favor the ms3 as the more efficient cam.I find that the ms4 peaks more at higher rpm..its torque curve and midrange power starts rather late for my liking.I dont want to rev to the moon to make my power since I rarely take the car past 6500rpm and Im not trying to chase down dyno numbers so much..I dont know full details of what was done to your heads, what compression ratio you are at,exhaust and most importantly..your intentions for the car itself means alot for setup.I think 3.73 can be a great gear for street..the 4.10s will be more aggressive for sure..everything has its pros and cons.I think you have good potential for a healthy combo..would like to know a lil more about your plans and current setup of the car.
The carb guys on Tech with more experience running those mods can chime in about their experiences both on the street/track and dyno. What are you going to run for ignition system,Ive heard equally good/bad for the holey edelbrock carb modules having base maps that were hit or miss and the msd being the better alternative.Just what I heard..dont ave any experience in the carb part of your build.

I got the MSD ignition and for the headers it would be 1 7/8" to 3" collector and electric cutout
Qwktrip sorry I didnt mean to be rude but Im here asking for opinions not copying other guys set ups so feel free to spoon feed me lol

Getting opinions from someone is fine, but you still need to do you're own research for what might be best for your setup. Are you just going to go with whatever someone tells you to, and then if you are not happy, blame them for it? Come on dude, no one wants to help someone, who is not willing to help themselves. I dare you to ask the same question on tech, and see the response you get there. Last edited by coptzer; Feb 19, 2012 at 10:39 AM.

Re: How much fun will it be?
I'm not sure what is working for the carb guys. Might be different than the fuel injection guys. Here are just a few things I can think of....
Don't quote me on this, but I think Texas Speed specs out cams and has Comp Cams make them. That means it uses Comp Cams lobe profiles. Texas Speed MS3 and MS4 are tried and true in FI cars. There is no question what the engine will do. I know Texas Speed has more cams so you might give them a call and talk to them.
The Thunder Racing TREX V2 cam is supposed to be an absolute animal in the upper RPM range. It's an all-out-effort street cam so not the most lovable for driving in trafffic. I loaded my 427 with a TREX V2 because my car is just for fun. We'll see what it does when I get it running.
EPS seems to have a very loyal following. Can't think of a single time when somebody said, I don't like my EPS cam. If I remember correctly (and I never really paid much attention so might be wrong) the EPS has really aggressive lobe profile and you have to keep watch on the valve springs. But it's that quick opening high lift that lets the heads flow more air.

You might do a search on LS1tech.com for a guy named, "burgers". He runs high 10 second quarters with a carbed 6.0L and stock L92 heads in a Buick Regal. He's tried several cams so you might ask him what works.

Re: How much fun will it be?
From my own research and other opinions from friends Ive noticed this.Over the shelf cams are ok..they have been decent performers for the average guy looking to put in a cam with less hassle of tuning and usually comes as a cam kit with the proper springs and pushrods which is the way Im going for my small build.Custom is the true best way to go for max efficiency of your combo.
QwkTrip..I thought Eps cams were the opposite,I thought they were good producing cams that were softer on valve train/noise with the combination of lobes they used on intake vs exhaust? Trex cams are beastly max effort hp cams lol..some guys have made them ok for daily street driving at lower rpm cruising but tuning it to that point took some work and you need 4.10 gear.
Alot of different brand cams are ground by comp cams. They are provided the specs and mass produced for the vendor. Not too many companies grind their cams inhouse.
What are your intentions of the car?Weekend warrior,street,street/strip etc? Im curious to see what you decide on and how well it works out.

Honestly, you probably know better than me. I probably should have just said go look at EPS because people like them.
That's what I'm hoping!

Re: How much fun will it be?
Lol ms3 is no slouch too..but I put trex cams up there with mega death cams lol..just downright devil comin up from hell raising the dead haha.Too much work for my liking with big cams like that..checking springs, valves, rockers etc very often running them..and the powerband doesnt suit my needs...they surge trying to cruise at low rpm..but hit 3500rpm and hold the F on! Ive been in a vette with a trex..thats a hair raising topend cam..the tone that thing made revving to 7000 I cant describe haha.
Ill stick to my lil lq4 with stock heads,ls6 intake,228r cam and stock manifolds will be a night and day difference to my blow ls1.
