I put a 3rd gen fuel gauge in a 4th gen gauge cluster. Do you see any reason this wouldn't work?

Re: Has this ever been done?

My first instinct is that it won't work. The thirdgen cluster gets its fuel info straight from the sender. The 4th Gen gets its info from serial data provided by the PCM. IF...IF...you can tap into the 4th Gen cluster so that the sender goes straight to the modified gauge section, it should work.

So it depends where the signal goes once it enters the cluster. Tho, since you already modded it, you could just bypass all internal circuitry and run the gauge that way.

I like the idea...let us know if you get it working properly.

J.

Cool idea. Is the sweep the same on the 2 gauges? If not your readings may be off.

it looks to be very close. Im not sure how i am going to get out the pinouts to wire it up but the fuel will have its own wiring from the factory wiring harness.

Re: Has this ever been done?

I got a question ( i need help pocket)

I got my truck harness modded for a stand alone. How will i wire up my gauges? Will i have to get the pinouts and put pins in for the gauges? Im not sure what all is removed when this is down but im guessing all that will be there is just enuff for the car to drive.

Re: Has this ever been done?

your standalone truck harness is all underhood. it has no direct connection to your fuel guages. i like your idea here so detail it for others or maybe do a sticky.

if you're using an "LT1" gauge cluster, it gets wired to the sensor outputs in the C100 bulkhead. if you're using an "LS1" gauge cluster, its serial data that has to come from the pcm (add a wire or two)

Re: Has this ever been done?

Did you happen to swap to a 4th gen tank? i assume no, it would be two nice upgrades to the car, new plastic rustproof gas tank and an updated dash w/a working fuel gauge.
