LT1 or Viper V10? :)

Hi guys,

I suppose a lot of You had seen my intention to put Viper V10 engine in my GTA, this is the thread: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/fabr...10-my-gta.html

In the meantime a lot of things was happen'

First of all, quite by accidant I found LT1 Camaro 1993.

I change my L98 engine with my friends's friend LT1. He bought complete LT1 Camaro 1993 year (83000miles) for his boat (because he needs engine for boat), and found out that LT1 engine has alluminium heads which is not good for boat. Because of that he gave me his LT1 and took my L98 I didn't know that he has complete car but when I found out, I bought the rest of the car for 700e (about 900$) and guess what, the car is with manual T56 transmission

So, that's a lot of changes in a few days and I now don't know what to do.

Is it better to put LT1/T56 or maybe Viper V10?

What kind of performances I could expect from LT1 (0-60, 1/4m)?

What about LT1 bolt on potential?

In first case, I have everything for swap, but for Viper V10 I need to buy two ECU's which is about 850$ plus a lot of modifications which I can't assume.

I hope that with good intake, headers and true dual I'll do, I can expect about 300HP at crank. Viper V10 has 400HP at crank and 465lb/ft and I know that it's much more, but I would like first to try with LT1

What do You think? What should I do?

Thank You all in advance for support/suggestions

The LT1 swap would be much, much less difficult. A couple of mounting modifications, some wiring to graft the LT1 harness to the GTA, and you've got a running engine. The V10 would be custom from start to finish.

400 crank HP from an LT1 is easy enough to achieve. A cam change, headers, and tuning, and you're there. No need for an intake change.

Huh, if it's so easy to get 350-400HP crank with LT1, I will leave V10 project for later

Re: LT1 or Viper V10? :)

LT1 would be less difficult to install, cheaper to install, less time consuming to install, cheaper to upgrade.

1. For the V10 you would have to make or customize all the swap parts. All the swap parts out there exist for the LT1 and you can just buy them:
-Exhaust/headers
-AC Lines
-Power Steering lines
-Coolant hoses

2. Simply the V10 has more parts. More parts that can fail. More parts mean more expense. Plus, I'm guessing parts are harder to find for this engine which drives the cost up.

3. I think the LT1 has more options since it is so similar to the Gen I SBC. You could even go so far as to have a hole drilled in the back of the intake along with a special washer made to allow for a rear SBC distributor to be ran on the back of the LT1 which would mean using the TPI harness.

OK guys, in the meantime I put LT1/T56 in GTA, not started yet, but it's in there

My dilemma is still present

What do You think about that?

What performances I could expect from Viper's V10 engine in GTA?

I know that V10 swap is difficult and expensive, engine is much heavier so I want to here opinions about expected performances.

As I read, V10 weight 323kg (710lbs), how much is LT1?

Torque and power graphs from V10:

So guys, let me here your opinions

Re: LT1 or Viper V10? :)

Did you end up putting a performance cam in the LT1? I think you should get it running and drive it for awhile to see how you like it. Then, if you still aren't satisfied with it, upgrade to the viper engine or an LSx engine. If it were me, I'd go with the LSx engine over the Viper engine just because of parts availability for the swap & engine. I know the Viper engine swap would be really cool, but I can imagine it would be really difficult as well. And the LSx engines have tons of power potential. Just my two cents. Good luck with it.
