Charging issues...
I apologize if something like this was already posted, but I'm in Afghanistan and I only get 30 mins of computer time. So a few years back I swapped an LS1 into my '86 IROC-Z. Turns out it was a pretty big project, alot more than I expected. My problem is I can't get the battery to hold a charge. I used all the existing parts from before, minus the new alternator and new battery. Not only that, but the horn is extremely weak, as are the headlights, mostly on the passenger side. After I shut it off I can't get it to start again. I'm going on leave soon, so I'd like to get it running to drive it a bit. I'm wondering if I forgot a strap or something along the way. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Are all your grounds bolted down in the headlight harness?

i dont have any charging issues but I did my best to make sure of that not happening.I got 4ga grounds on the front and back both heads direct to the frame and battery.4ga from the battery to the alternator hen to the starter.i have an upgraded truck alternator good to 160amps at idle which i recommend to everyone doing an lsx swap to use this. The alt has a single wire going from it to the ecm and thats it.

I appreciate the help. I think the headlight harness is grounded, but that's something that I can check. As for grounding the heads and stuff, is that something that is recommended? It wouldn't be hard at all. And 86 White_T you said you used 4ga. Does it matter what type? Should it be weather proof, or would like speaker wire work?

Alright man, I'll give it a try. Gonna have a few days to mess with it while I'm home for two weeks, so I'll see what happens.
