stock tranny on 4.8l chevy 1500?

stock tranny on 4.8l chevy 1500?
a friend of mine is pulling his 4.8l (which i desparately want of course) and the 5 spd tranny that goes with it from his truck , goin with a 6 l and a new tranny..my question is does anyone know what this stock tranny is in the truck and can i keep it with the 4.8l ? i got a feeling the t-5 i currently have wont hold up too well, but the 5 spd from the truck wont fit for whatever reason, i guess itll have to. thanks for any info!

Well, nobody responded - probably because no one is that familiar with truck transmissions.
I rather doubt the truck tranny will fit without major mods, but I really don't know. On the other hand, the T5 would probably be fine as long as you don't do high-RPM clutch dumps or try to speed shift it (just like behind the 305).
