1992 Z28 LQ4 swap
So I had this car in high school. A 1992 Z28 Camaro 25th Anniversary black w/ red stripes. Needless to say driving was a blast in high school. 6 months after graduating high school I blew the worn out 350 TPI
. Well here I am 5 years later just having graduated college and I have finally started amassing parts to bring the old Z28 back to life.
I have just purchased a complete lift out 6.0 LQ4 (engine, computer, harness, pedal, TAC module) through LKQ w/88,xxx miles out of an 01 Silverado, Fbody LS1 oilpan+ windage tray+pickup+new gaskets, new GM clamshell LS mounts, Spohn polyurethane bushings, Spohn LSX adapter plates, 4th Gen F-body fuel tank, 4th gen F-body coolant tank, torquer V2 cam, tsp 7.400 pushrods, beehive valve springs, stainless hawks LT headers 1-3/4 primaries, 4L60E out of an 00 Z28, Circle D 3200 stall torque converter, all the air conditioning components
, all accessories and brackets out of a 4th gen Fbody, new water pump, alternator, power steering pump w/ reservoir, harmonic balancer and bolt, ARP header bolts, LS7 lifters, every gasket on the damned engine, comp cams rocker trunion kit, LS1 intake, LS1 Injectors, LS1 fuel rails, I'll keep updating this list.
I am planning on using and abusing the stock 700r4 until she gives out and will eventually build up a 4l60 or 80e for it. (That was the plan when I started this thread but have since bought the 4L60e.)
I work at my family business which is an automotive repair facility specializing in exhaust. I will be getting the Hawksthirdgen long tube headers(got them) and using out mandrel bender to build custom exhaust. Hopefully true duals but I am probably just dreaming
I will start to post some pictures tomorrow of the car and what not but for now I am excited as ever to get a start on my ride!!!!!!

Got the car uprooted from our shop and to our house.

LQ4 complete pull out w/ engine, computer, wiring harness, and gas pedal/TAC modulej; $1600

Dummy LS block for mock up.

Old Clamshell mounts that were mounted to the frame

New GM 98-02 LS1 Clamshell mounts w/ stock bushings taken out and replaced w/ new polyurethane bushings from spohn and will mount to the bottom of the block.

Dummy block fits perfect

Re: 1992 Z28 LQ4 swap
Take your time with the swap and it should turn out real nice. Seems like most people start out wanting to use their 700r4 at the start of their swap, but end up using a 4L60e before it's all said & done. Do your homework on it.
What kind of lens do you have on your camera? It looks like it's convex or something. Some of your pics seem distorted.

If you have access to an exhaust shop I'd recommend making your own headers! It's always nice to do something yourself and save some cash IMO. Clean that block up too. At least tear it down and re-ring it. Just following torque specs it'll go back together in no time. Plus a pressure washer and some paint will make it look 10X better when you open your hood.
What front accessories are you using? What harness PCM combo? Intake? AC? Cruise? I've a '91 so more power to ya!

Absolutely do so! My name is Joshua. I'd love to see your car as well. Question too: You drilled a 2" hole under the HVAC box and mounted your pcm under the dash is that correct? If so do you have any pictures of when you did that?

Evolution of the motor from greasy pullout to nice clean LS ready to drop!
Pull out 6.0 in all of its greasy glory!

Starting to tear her down

Hole drilled to facilitate alternator bracket

Front Accessory drive on for mock up purposes.

Nice tight fit on the alternator after drilling the hole and installing the bracket

Degreased......ish

Decided to paint the block black

Camshaft TSP Torquer V2

Who wants a black block??????????????????? I don't know what I was thinking so Chevy Engine it is!

Timing cover painted and back on after and LS2 timing chain and new oil pump(I believe LS2 as well, Melling pump)

One head back on

Help from a friend

Two heads back on!

Heads were cleaned up, new valve seats, springs, etc. installed.

Going to need an injection cleaning once she is running lol

Back together w/o the ac on

Nice progress *****!
Is that a Chevelle in the garage beside the engine on the stand? Are those new head bolts? Did you install better rods bolts? I've heard the stock rod bolts are the weak link in the bottom end on these engines. Keep up the nice work.

Notch in the crossmember for some oil pan clearance. Would have been reallllllly tight without it but probably would have fit.

Progression of the notch in the crossmember for the A/C compressor

Boxed up

Painted up

Engine bay is almost ready to accept the motor

Re: 1992 Z28 LQ4 swap
I've research alot on this and what I gathered it's 50/50 rod bolts my blow or may not spinning around 7000 above and beyond some dont have issues others do
rod bolts are the weak point I upgraded my rod bolts to arp if your block is apart it's cheap insurance , but if block was taken apart I probably wouldn't bother and use a blown rod as excuse to get better block lol
