help with an ls1 potential purchase
Hello everyone,
thanks in advance for your input. Ok I have a couple f bodies and I am complating putting in a ls1 in my 69 firebird. Now I am familar with the basic process req'd and it can quite expensive as well all know. I have just run across a deal on craigslist for a wrecked ws6 ls1 t56 drop out. He is wanting 3900.00 for the whole setup with 108k on it. Do we think that is fair price ideas?? comments? thanks Phil check out link for further info http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/pts/3108338399.html

For a setup like that - I'd offer him 3200 or so. Once you start reaching the $4K mark you can get some nicer low(er) mileage setups.

for that price you might want to consider building one up. I would be cautious about the engine and how the driver drove it giving that it is a WS6, they may have driven it hard.

I respectfully disagree. T56 dropouts are quite a bit more than 4L60E's. And, this one has upgraded cam, injectors, tranny and clutch. Probably upgraded tune as well (although you'll still need to tune out some stuff like emissions).
The 9" would be worth pursuing as well (although wouldn't be a bolt-in into a '69).

Re: help with an ls1 potential purchase
Id say offering $3200 cash is fair. They key to this dropout is you are saving since it has upgrades that would cost you more had you bought this all seperately.T56's stock still range anywhere from 1200-1900 used,l1's can be had cheap $500 upto 1200.Fbody front accessories arent cheap to buy new either, then engine harness and computer thats already tuned to the setup.Stage 2 trans build ontop..and clutch.
If its running good with no signs of major abuse I dont see why this is a bad buy?
Buying the motor piece by piece upto the same level as this combo would be over 4grand price tag aside from whatever swap parts you need to put it into the 69.
He could find a cheaper engine with lower mileage sure..but it wont be as complete as this dollar per dollar. If you have the chance to grab the entire car for 3900 as it sits then that would be a good bargain for a donor car.
