T56 guys in here - Picked up a Pro 5.0, ditching my Hurst, input?
A friend of mine sold me his Pro 5.0 shifter for dirt cheap ($80), so I'm going to pull the factory Hurst shifter out of the car and swap it out. I'm wondering what you guys think about the Pro 5.0 if you had something else before that. I think it will take some getting used to considering the stick is angled towards the driver, but from feeling it out in his car, it seems like the whole assembly is more solid than the Hurst.

Pro 5.0 is the shortest throw ive driven yet. Its angled and low ball position dont exactly excite me but it is tight and quick. Speaking of quick the one I run is old school Quick Silver by B&M. It was a one piece stainless but I cut it and modded it to fit the stock third gen console. It pokes pretty much straight up the hole and its a bit taller so not quite as short a throw but I like it.

It's been a number of years since I used a factory Hurst shifter, but I would imagine that even though it's an "upgrade", it's a factory option so it's going to be on the softer side to cater to people who want the upgrade but don't want to hurt their wrist.
FWIW, I went from a 75k mile factory non-Hurst shifter to the Pro5.0 and loved it. The stops and solid pivot is awesome. My buddy has a B&M in his GTO and I've never really liked the way it feels. It's not necessarily softer but I think the pivot angle is worse. I'm not sure if it's because the GTO setup is more of a remote shifter or what.

I can't compare to the hurst but it is very stiff and accurate provided you loctite the bolts that they come with. Mine kept coming loose.
It's also the only one with the stop screws I think.
Looks very beefy and The angle helps keep it away from the passenger side when in higher gears and reverse
1-2 is cake 2-3 Feels like a ramp is guiding it 3-4 is easier than 1-2 reverse on mine is hard but it's because of the lockout.
In all it was worth the 150 or so I spent so at 80 its a steal.

$80 is a great price, get it and never look back.

ive had both.. and i can honestly say i prefer the Hurst better. The Pro 5.0, for me, was too notchy, yes the throw is slightly shorter but the hurst is smoother.

I rock the hurst stock with a short stick attachment. Banging gears is just right.

Just give it a try and see. You can always go back to the Hurst if you want. And it only takes a little bit of time to swap them out.

i have always run Hurst brand shifters in my vehicles. i have a billet plus in my swap and absolutely love it. having never used the pro 5.0 myself, i can't provide any feedback there. how are you using it? auto-x, drag racing, etc. i run the 7.5" stick on my setup and i can change gears with just my fingers(i believe this is the tallest stick for an f-body), no wrist or arm movement necessary....I can't imagine a shorter shift giving you a more "positive" feeling.

Re: T56 guys in here - Picked up a Pro 5.0, ditching my Hurst, input?
Having had both in our LS1 car here is my input. The Hurst is smoother and easier to shift while the Pro 5.0 is shorter, but notchy. Under power it shifts quick, but around town there is surely a difference in the feel of it with the Pro 5.0 being stiffer.
If you put it in, do not go with a very short stick on it. You need the leverage of a longer stick(we started with a Lous short stick and that combined with a Pro 5.0 sucked). Put a longer one on there and it is MUCH better.
What stick is on it? Stock Pro 5.0?

Re: T56 guys in here - Picked up a Pro 5.0, ditching my Hurst, input?
I had a B&M and didnt like it at all. I wasnt a fan of the stick being all one piece.
I got the Pro5.0 and ran it for a little bit. Then took off the shift lever and cut off some of the threads. Then I put it in a press, and angled it back and to the drivers side. 1) it fit my seating position better and 2) it gave the impression that it was a little shorter. Like an angled Hurst handle sort of.
Shortly after that, I took it apart and added some spacers to the centering springs to get it to snap back to center stronger. I was missing my 2-3 shift here and there, and didnt like how lazy it was getting back to center. Shortly before I ruined the motor, it was shifting and working perfectly and felt fantastic (to me anyway) when putzing around or when hammering on it.

I really like my pro 5.0 shifter. I have used one in all my 6 spd cars. Hurst would be my second choice though.
I'll never use B&M again.....

Ever get to use it yet??
My car is my first stick and im using the 5.0.
1-2 is great
2-3 isnt bad and the rest are cake
I have the short throw on it to and love it. As others have said, bit notchy here and there but its still a good piece imo. Then again.. its the only shifter ive used lol
