how did you´ve guys feel after swaping to a lt1 engine? do you use your car on the streets or track? best answer for me is from them who uses it on the streets. If i´m not got i wrong so has the lt1 engine more torque on higher rpms than the 350. i´m thinking of swaping to a lt1 but i´m not sure if it worth it or if it´s better to upgrade the 350 tpi? I can say that the car will only roll on the streets and maybe sometimes on the track.

10 times out of 10 the LT1 is a better choice.

I may be better to just install a better head and intake (stealth/miniram) on your 350TPI than deal with the headache (opticrap/remote mount coolant hoses/an more) of that swap.
If your going to swap go LS.
If your going to swap go LS.

Far better flowing heads, and a far better ecu are two of the biggest.
Nice compact front accessory drive with 124 or 140A alternator are a big plus also.
Sure you can hack this and that together and eventually upgrade the TPI engine to perform the same, but in the end you'll have spent more and done a lot more work.

Remote mount coolant hoses ?
What in the world are you talking about ?
Have you actually done any LTx / LSx swaps ?

I'm talking about the nasty remote T-stat and related hoses.
Yes, I have done several swaps. Working as a planner/ install tech in performance shops on an off for 20 plus yrs, one tends to pic up a few pointers here an there.
Even stuffed a built LT1 into a newer S10. What a pain.
I stand by my statment that a simple head, intake an maybe a cam swap will be cheaper and make as much power if not more power than a LT swap.
The LS is a faaar better way to spend your money if you want 2 do a swap.

He clearly stated that he was looking to swap the whole engine.
A remote thermostat is nowhere in the requirements, nor is there any reason to make him think that he'd need one.
The Coolant hoses for an LT1 into a thirdgen are quite simple.

Yes i meant to swap the whole engine vs upgrade the 350 tpi. who people who done that experience it after the swap.Originally Posted by Z28ricer

ps hoses
fuel lines
LT1 radiator hoses
If you want a/c you'll need to notch the engine crossmember and need custom hoses, preferribly for this use edelbrocks headers, if you arent doing a/c, use the biggest you can find reasonably.

good to know. so in the end, it is tha same work to put in a ls1 as a lt1 engine basicly?Originally Posted by Z28ricer

LT1 just uses thirdgen mounts and done.

Hoooly crap... I got crossed up and was thinking about swaping just the Intake on a older SBC. I need some sleep badly.Originally Posted by Z28ricer

Sooo anyway I'll still stand by statements (other than the t-stat)
If your going to swap, step up and go LS.

While the LS1 is nice, and does make great power, blindly overlooking the LT1 benefits like you are isnt the greatest plan.
Realistically for something sub 430 whp NA, the LT1 is going to cost less.
Beyond that, yes an LS1 is the way to go, but for the majority of people, $/hp matters.

Changing opti sparks all the time isnt my idea of a good time. I've seen them last but they can be a big $$ problem. Originally Posted by Z28ricer

A stock LS is 300-400hp(depending on yr an model) A LT is 275-340ish (depending on yr an model)?
For either swap,By selling the stock items, if you buy a complete donr car, you can just about part the doner out and pay 4 your swap.
the problem for me that i can´t put in a ls1 engine legal unless i change the drivetrain, suspension and brakes that costs a lots of money BUT if i´ll go with the lt1 i dont need that. the car will more o less only go on the streets and maybe on track. so what do you guys think, is it worth the swap? i can sell the 350 tpi engine here in sweden for the same price that a lt1 cost in usa. i´ve also gonna put in a 4 gen dash board and ect so it should be easier also with the wiring?
