86 Z28 cammed 5.3 swap

A fellow member here just swung by tonight and we dialed in the tune on his 86 Z, i figured i would share, it was a bit lean after getting the timing in and now she is spot on adter jetting up the primary a few sizes, it was only a bit rich. The cam is a custom grind 235/239, 110 LSA and .600 lift, milled 243 castings and a over the hill 200K plus 5.3 liter, go LS! Runs fantastic, 750 DP, 74P 78S jets, hawks swap headers with built 700R4, 3.90 gears in a 10 bolts. Has some clean up to do but this is his first time to drive it since the swap, he towed it to my place and drove it home. He had a 6.0, which the replacement pistons let go and now he went this route for temporary till he gets another 6.0 to increase power(or will there be a stroker?).

Looks and sounds good.I vote for a nice carb 402/trex when he gets the 6.0 back up for a mild setup lol.

A Trex is not enough to feed a 400ci LS, not past 6400 RPM anyway, last one i helped a friend build was 258/264 @.050, the Trex is 242/248. So custom grind if he does go bigger!

It is in the pic, the 6010 box. Initial is now 20*, then ramps to 35* all in by 2000.

Was a blowmaster single in dual out. I don't like them, they sound hollow and holding back. Not bad, but not my preference.

I really liked how the single 10 series sounded on your red car!

Re: 86 Z28 cammed 5.3 swap

1 chambers are kind of the exception. Not much chamber there to cause that holding back sound I think.

The car in this post has gone 7.4 with a 6.0 now. Same heads and cam the 5.3 used. 5.3 went 7.8s.

The only Flowmaster I've ever liked is the Force II I have on the LS1/T56 Berlinetta, and it doesn't even look like they offer it anymore.
