Took me much longer, but sure felt good when I got it back on wheels.
3rd gen radiator... hoses from Amazon, or any store. Part #s in sticky up top of Forum. One hose # has been updated, get that one. Bit of trimming on the hoses.

Re: Just another 5.3 Iroc Build...
I used a fourth gen radiator for my lt1 swap. I just drilled a hole for the drain-**** on the bottom passenger side of the rad. It might require alittle trimming on the top to get it angled right, but i just put the shroud on and bolted it up. Angled down a little bit but not much, trimming off the top will fix that.

Yeah I know that part, I just wanted to use the 4th gen radiator and fans since my 3rd gen radiator was pretty much toast
Thanks!!!

I just realized I haven't had any REAL updates with pics in a bit... so bear with me...
Stock 3rd Gen Fuel Tank out... with about 1/2 tank left in it... (Fuel Sender didn't work that well...

Stock 4th Gen Pump Assembly Out of the tank

Modifying the Sender, checking the ohms...

In and Ready To Go...

Modified the Plug so that it'll work for the 4th Gen Tank and the 3rd Gen Bulkhead Connector

Tank ready to go in.... Hopefully the rubber fuel hoses don't leak... I clamped them on tightly though...

Bear with me... I'm trying to be as detailed as possible since sometimes its hard finding the info you need... That way if someone needs to know if it works or doesn't they can look back on this...
Tank in and plugged in... Factory look lol

Lines in... I've got to find a way to tuck the Filter and everything up nicer... Any ideas?

I originally took the tank end of the filler neck off, and once I got the tank in, I saw that it wouldn't work... so, had to drop the tank down a little and put a hose clamp on it...

Got the filler neck in and bolted up, all in all had to trim about an inch... I may trim a little more to let it sit back in there better but I'll see later, I've still got to bolt it to the body so it won't move. No leaks when I went to put a couple gallons in the tank so that's a good sign so far.

I've probably got to bend the bracket a little more to get it to bolt down...

Wiring.... BLAH!!!! The holdup on the WHOLE project lol...

Extending some of the wires....

Pushed it out of the shop while I was doing Simultaneous cam swaps on 2 LS2 GTOs... so its been sitting for about two weeks so far... I'll get back on it this week I'm almost done with the wiring harness... Still haven't decided about the radiator but I guess I may just have to use the stock 3rd gen one...

I did my tank wiring the same way you did, I see where people use the 4th gen bulkhead but it seemed like a lot of un-nessasary work. I would t be worried about the radiator if you thought abou using a 4th gen one, 3rd gen radiator is slightly larger, atleast when I measured mi e against a 99TA I had for a donor car.

Re: Just another 5.3 Iroc Build...
I used the thirdgen fuel filter bracket, and trimmed off the flange that used to mate up with the frame rail, so it was just a flat piece of steel with the filter clamp portion. Used two screws to secure it to the frame rail in the same orintation as you, and just made sure I had the filter tucked up high as I could before I Marked my holes. The bra key is about the width of a quarter below the bottom edge of the frame rail.

This is where I bolted My neck. Just below the pinch weld.
Question. Since I will be pulling my tank again to replave the regulator. What # sending unit are we going with on the 4th gen pump to get the correct ohm sweep?
Keep up the good work, It will pay off soon!!!

Cool... I'll take the neck out and bend it so I can bolt it the same way... The sender is GM Part #25319676 out of a '97 Grand Prix

Re: Just another 5.3 Iroc Build...
Finally got the car back in the shop this weekend for a bit of work, I've been working on a bunch of other projects for some customers... I'll be finishing up the Bottom of the car tomorrow including swapping out the Transmission for a built unit that I traded for some parts with a friend of mine. Going to be putting in the brake lines, and I lost the rear brake pads. I thought I set them to the side but I must've sent them to the recycling a few weeks back.

Trying to figure out about the shifter cable... it seems the 700R4 Cable is too short... anyone run into this? Also seems that the end won't snap onto the shift lever.

Re: Just another 5.3 Iroc Build...
FYI i tryed to use those same type of clamps that you used on the lines coming off of the sending unit on my ls swap and it about costed me my car. I had 2 on one of those dorman push-lock fittings at the fuel rail. The hose blew off of the fitting driving down the road and soaked the 210* running engine with A LOT of fuel.
The 700r cable worked on my swap, i had to take the shifter arm that the cable attaches to off of the 700 and put it on the 4l60
I know you already have the tank in but i would advise getting rid of all of those clamps. I don't want to see a 3rd gen burn to the ground or even worse some one get hurt.

And I wish I still had the 700... I guess I've got to go to the JY in the morning and look for the shifter arm... nice

I know the lines are not cheap and i was trying to do my swap on the elcheapo but i think SS lines with AN fittings are mandatory for this swap to be safe.

Re: Just another 5.3 Iroc Build...
So since I decided to build an LS Iroc... my girl decided to build my other Iroc (Was futher away from running so I set it to the side)... Complete drivetrain is in now... just need harness and tank, etc...

I'll be updating the build thread from that one as well... But ANYWAYS.... down to today....
Wiring MESS!!! I've got to take it back off once I get everything else dialed in and loom it/tape it...

My buddy came and tuned VATS out of the PCM so now I just need to bypass it on the car itself... BUT I'm impatient so I used my Power Probe and applied power to the starter and... IT'S ALIVE!!!!
Just wouldn't stay running without keeping the throttle plate open so I'll check into that...

Re: Just another 5.3 Iroc Build...
Still have to fix the coolant hoses... the 01 Silverado Hose was a bad fit (as I expected) as was the gates 21505, which seems to be too big and kink when I try to put it on... anyone else have that problem and what are you using??? Also which hose will work for the top hose? I saw something that said to use an early 4th gen v6 upper... is that what people are using??
I'm also having an issue with the trans not wanting to **** into 1st when I put it into Drive or OD... seems like it's in 2nd or 3rd... but when I manually shift it into 1st its fine.
All in all... got a first drive video... and a pic or two...

My buddy's 89 Notchback and my 89 Iroc one late night....

And finally a quick video with open manifolds....

That is sweet!!! Have you checked to see if there are any trouble codes? Could be why it is taking off in second? If not you may have a stuck valve or other internal issue...

UPDATE: The Iroc is off at my friend's muffler shop getting the exhaust done. Went with a Spintech Muffler 2 into 1, to the muffler and back to dual stock appearing exhaust dumps behind the bumper. I'll get pics when I get it back. I'm anxious because it's been gone 2 weeks already...

Re: Just another 5.3 Iroc Build...
My bad for the late response... been moving, and well we all know how that goes. This is my first time on the computer in about a week and a half.
UPDATES:
Got it back from the muffler shop with a custom catless y-pipe and full 3" Exhaust all the way back to a custom muffler. Turn-downs (stock appearance) behind the bumper. Sounds great, a little louder than I wanted but I like it.
Got the trans figured out. It was the PCM, I was using one from my 6speed Camaro and the tune wasn't completely right for the Auto. Swapped out the PCM and it's good now.
Got the new plates yesterday and paid the Reg. Had an issue with it not starting and turned out the be the c100 connector loose. So now she's at the new house in the garage. I'll probably drive it a little this weekend.
Found some 35th Anniversary rims I may try to grab next week... I think they'd look good on the 'Roc... We will see.
Next mod is to finish the interior and put the radio back in, and grab a paint gun and paint the headlight buckets satin black, it's bothering me that they aren't. Plus I can get some painting practice in.

Re: Just another 5.3 Iroc Build...
Engine was from a 2001 Suburban/Tahoe.
Been tuning the Trans on the Iroc, and have gotten it where I'm pretty happy with it. Deleted all the torque management, bumped up line pressure, and changed shift points for the stall. Really brought out the power more and doesn't hesitate like it did before.
My shop got broken into earlier this month and some Tools along with some LS Parts were stolen including my 224/228 Cam I was going to put in this car, so now I'm looking into the Tick Saturday Night Special Cam or the Tick Street Heat Cam. Not looking to put in Longtubes at this time since the end plan later this year is to go turbo. Going to run it Cam/Nitrous for the time being though.

Looks great man! I also had trouble deciding how to mount the fuel filter/regulator. I welded a bracket to hand the filter/reg from and just fasted to the stock location near the drivers side rear wheel....seems to be holding up after a year. Looking forward to the rest of the build!

Re: Just another 5.3 Iroc Build...
Lately I've been driving the Iroc EVERYWHERE!! I'd say the swap has about 1500-2000 miles on it. Maybe less, would help if I had the speedo working. It turns a lot of heads and people are surprised when they hear it. They can tell it's not completely stock. It's got great driveability and is fun as hell to drive!! Working on my girl's harness for her swap (Should have been done months ago, but life got in the way). As soon as her's is running I'm having a custom nitrous cam ground by Martin of Tick Performance. I'll be creating a new thread for her Iroc shortly.
Also, since I still have another 89 Iroc tucked out of the way, I'm thinking of a smog legal 383/T56/P1 Procharged Swap on that one... I think that'll be a fun driver.

Re: Just another 5.3 Iroc Build...
So since I haven't updated this thread in a long while I figure I may as well do that now. Lately the car has been down with a bad fuel pump, and since I've been busy working on everyone else's cars I haven't had the chance to work on mine at all. Besides I'm not too anxious to drive the car in the rain on bald drag radials. So I've put together a list of things I want to do to the car while it's down. Currently it's sitting in my garage on jackstands.
I've started to Pull off the brakes so that I can put the LS1 Setup on it. I could've gone with the C5 setup but I didn't want to have to shave the Calipers to run the ZR1's. I painted the Amber portion of the taillights red, I didn't want the smoked look since everyone else does that look. I also took the tires off the rims since I needed new tires anyway, I sprayed one Black using Plastidip to see what It would look like and I think I like it. I also have a set of Silver ZR1's with deep dish rears that I want to try to run on here, but we will see how those fit. Began to rip apart the gauge cluster to put new bulbs in it, still haven't found any bright bulbs that I think will look good though. And since they're out I may put overlays on the gauges. Let me know what you think....
(btw Sorry for the Iphone pics, I always forget to charge my camera)

I also took the tires off the rims since I needed new tires anyway, I sprayed one Black using Plastidip to see what It would look like and I think I like it. I also have a set of Silver ZR1's with deep dish rears that I want to try to run on here, but we will see how those fit. Began to rip apart the gauge cluster to put new bulbs in it, still haven't found any bright bulbs that I think will look good though. And since they're out I may put overlays on the gauges. Let me know what you think....
(btw Sorry for the Iphone pics, I always forget to charge my camera)
