Swapping in LY6 VVT engine
Well the time has come to say bye to my sbc. I want to drive it more on the street and my mud truck needs a good motor. My friend has an LY6, what I'm trying to figure out is what kind of build I want to do, either leave it stock, put a small turbo on it and tune it well........or put a cam in it and leave it all motor. Its going to get street driven mostly and raced on the weekends. T56 trans.
I really like all motor power and the sound. However a little turbo would give me real nice torque.......what to do, what to do.
550 crank hp is where I'd like to be. I still want to get decent mileage.

550 crank is doable cam only but your going to need a healthy stick and your drive ability will suffer somewhat, but it would be fun as HELL!!! 500 crank is cake with a mild cam and will retain completely civil driving manners.
As for boost? Its a big step but you can have both incredible power and very civil drive ability if you go this route but the costs sky rocket if you want to build/buy a nice reliable set up. No sense shooting for 550 crank with you might as well aim for 650-750 crank it wont cost any more if you do it right. Mileage can be retained as well so long as you can keep your boot out of it.
So the oldest and most important question to ask oneself at this stage? How fast do you want to buy?
3-5k mod budget for NA and all the nice goodies if you build it yourself
8-20K if you go boost pending materials, type of boost, and parts. Ebay stuff can be done uber cheap but its uber cheap stuff so.....

Well, if I went turbo it would just be a simple cheap setup with low boost. I want to run the truck intake to keep low end tq high and I don't think that intake supports FI very well. I think I can just use flipped F-body exhaust manifolds too.
