Lt1 swap - how to keep the T-5?

Alright so I've got a great deal on an LT1 from a 94 camaro, complete with computer and wiring harness. The donor car is an auto, and unfortunately I don't have the money right now to perform the T-56 swap right now. I'm kind of hoping to skate by on the T-5 for a while until money starts coming in a little better. Being that my car is an 88 Camaro (TBI) I have to assume that I have a mechanical speedo, which from what I've been reading all day today, won't work with an LT1 swap because it won't supply a (proper) VSS signal to the PCM. So in a nutshell, my question is how can I keep the T-5 in its current form (without finding a 4th gen V6 with a T-5 and taking the tailshaft and whatnot) and still get a VSS signal to the computer. As it is now, the car must have some sort of VSS as I've seen that code come up (all too often I might add) when the car is warming up and idling high. Is there any way to convert that VSS signal to a usable one for the LT1 PCM? Maybe something from Dakota Digital? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks

I was thinking of something along those lines but I've spent all day searching these forums and seeing people say to find a fourth gen V6 T-5 and take the tailshaft, reluctor ring, and VSS from that to get the right signal or add a 17 tooth gear somewhere in there...so I'm glad to see you think that'd work too.

Do a search for a site called "jags that run". They sell an inline vss that will work with your speed sensor. If its was a t56 car you will need to get the pcm flashed to look for a 4k ppm instead on the t56's signal. There are a few ways to skin this cat. This is how I did it.

Re: Lt1 swap - how to keep the T-5?

It's actually an auto (which makes it a 4l60e?) but I definitely wanna stay with the manual trans. If the donor car were a t-56 car I wouldn't think twice about doing it at the same time, but I can only get a good deal on this specific car so I gotta work with what I got! I assume the PCM would still need to be reflashed to change it's settings to manual (and to eliminate VATS) so i assume it would still need to be reflashed to look for the 4000 ppm signal?

Whiteblaze: do you know which vss is the one I would need? I was just looking at the JTR site and I'm guessing its the dual output 90° angle drive? How exactly do you make it work?

Mine is straight. It just mounts between the tranny and the speedo cable. The wires go to the vss input. In 94, they might have went to the 40,000 signal, but the pcm Can be flashed to look for 4000.
