those stainless swap headers *install

just installed another set of ls swap headers on my buddys ls1 iroc very impressed. these are the 300$ headers that everyone complains about being knock offs of ssw version. hawks sells the exact set as well *stainless steel version smaller primaries

i have a set on my ride and theyre identical to these.

here some pics for reference on the install.
check out the clearance between header and frame rail, they do not hit, the ports on the header flange were cleaned up a bit as well.

www.hawksthirdgenparts.com in the 82-92 section under LSx swap parts, or in the exhaust section.

Re: those stainless swap headers *install

they're here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OBX-Stainless-Steel-Exhaust-Manifold-Header-1982-1997-Camaro-SBC-/221240874079?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3382fbd45f&vxp=mtr
There's been some debate about the primary size. I believe that somebody measured them and the ID is larger than the 1.5" that the auction says.

Re: those stainless swap headers *install

I bought a set of 1-3/4" primaries from Racing Innovation and Supply. They took a little "massaging" but they fit good now.

Apparently, they've since changed the primary size to 1-5/8"...

That sucks, since it's a downsize and I bet they are charging the same for them.

IMO
Fully stock LS1 maybe.
With H/C/I swap or bigger cubes, you really need bigger headers than these.

Nearly all the power gains on a 243 head are on the exhaust side. A fully ported 243 will not make much more power over one with a ported exhaust and stock intake port. My advice FWIW - go bigger!

Re: those stainless swap headers *install

I signed up for the waiting list direct from their website, and havent received anything, I even sent 2 additional emails and left 3 voice mails to get in touch when the headers would be ready....this was all 2 months ago and the phone calls probably every 2-3 weeks.

a simple phone call can go a long way, but when I leave 3 voice mails to just let me know how long of a waiting list and whats the estimated ETA on them, and I get nothing kinda sucks, what if I had a problem with a product and not an email or return voice mail, made me wonder "do I want to deal with a company like this? "

Hey Bruce to be honest I haven't bought anything from ur company because there's been a lot of negative threads lately about ur company. Some on customer service, some on fitting issues, product quality, etc, etc. now I don't want to get into all that but if I want to invest my hard earn money to give ur company a shot what assurances can I and everyone else get on the products and customer service you provide.

Hi,
Well To be honest no one is perfect including me , but there are ALWAYS two sides to every story and I would HOPE you would not base a decision on one side, although I can see why you would consider. Please remember I can not speak/deal with EVERY customer personally but I can assure you I have thousands of happy return customers. A main majority of the time if there is a issue which there is from time to time, the bad stories you here of are situations where customers don't understand that we WANT YOU HAPPY and go about getting responses the totally wrong way . There is a thread on here where I personally told ANY customer that has had a issue to contact me personally and I would see about resolving and changing there opinion and you know I only had ONE person contact me !
I would love the opportunity to speak with you and feel free to ask me about any issues or concerns you have , then from there you will be able to form your own opinion if you would like to give us your hard earned money for our product. IF we do it that way there is just you and I and I can assure you that you will receive the service you want and deserve!
I did on this thread find it amusing that the headers above needed modifications and that that seemed OK based on price where as other threads before with our headers if there was ANYTHING that was in question it was like a feeding frenzy that are parts don't fit, no good, crooks, lie to our customers etc, which is simply UNTRUE. Think of this, I have been in this business for almost 15 years and started from nothing so why would I want ANY of my customers unhappy?? Simply put for ALL OF MY CUSTOMERS TO BE HAPPY is really the only goal that would make sense! please form your personal conclusion once you have given us a shot! I look forward to helping you !
Thank you ,
Bruce Hawkins

Re: those stainless swap headers *install

Thank you Bruce for your response. I know there are always two side to the story and also know that u have to have customers with good experiences, if not u would be out of business. I also know that you can't make everyone happy and the unhappy ones are most likely to post a response the a happy customer. It's good that u acknowledge that ur company isn't perfect and like others u intrust others to represent ur company as u want it to be represented which doesn't always happen. Having this group buy is a good idea at a good price. It will definitely attract new happy buyers. Good luck I may just have to jump on board at that price.

Bruce,

My post was not directed at you or your company. It was in direct about someone commented on the Racing Innovation, which I was upset about due to their lack of customer service proceedures. Anyway your offer for you posted is for the stainless works set or for the budget set of headers ? Im in need of a set, a nice set of Stainless, Ill be in for a group purchase on those if you can be done.
thank you
Greg

Hi,
Sorry I did not think you meant it toward me at all either , I could see you guys were having some customer service issues and I was just saying I have the 1 3/4 budget versions in stock ready to ship for 500.00 to the door , if we could get 10 people, I have to pay WAY more than that for the stainless works brand . I hope I can help you in the near future!.
Thanks again Bruce

Hi,
we could 50.00 off is aboutt he best I can do on the SW pieces IF WE GET 10 buyers , there is just no margin in them anymore, keep in mind the retail is pretty much the same as when they came out in 03 and you know there have been price increases .
Thanks and let me know!
Bruce

I have these headers on my car & am very pleased with them. They're a great value compared to the Stainless Works pieces.

I'm interested, I should find out in the next couple days if I've got my motor.

Deal applies for us Canadians as well?
