Make the change to LS?
Hey guys i really need some help deciding what direction to head in with my motor. I dont want this to turn into a SBC vs LS thread so please keep it from heading that direction. My current motor is a ZZ4 short block with a LT4 hot cam, Vic JR 23* heads/intake, Demon 750. I would really love to make the switch to an LS motor possibly a LS3 or 6.0 variant for obvious reasons. My question is would i be better off keeping the SBC and buying a cam for it to maximize the potential of the heads/intake or just sell off the SBC and use the money towards a LS swap. What would be more cost effective?
The rods on the SBC are only rated to 6500 so i was thinking maybe buying a cam that makes power mostly up top since this is a track use vehicle. I love the idea of an LS swap with the power potential but im just unsure with the cost involved of a cammed LS3/6.0 variant versus what i already have and the cheaper cost of buying a new cam. Help point this noob in the right direction!

LS3 with just headers will do at least 475 HP. Any used 224 cam ( and you can always find several of them for sale ) will push that well over 500.
You might do 475 with a nasty solid roller, but selling your stuff as is would get you a used iron-block 6.0L with the rectangular-port heads, as a complete engine, and the headers, and the swap mounts. Then the cost is closer to a wash.

Re: Make the change to LS?
Thx for the response Atilla i appreciate it. So 475 is really the best i can hope to get out of my current combo? So depressing considering the low amount of miles on it. Ive been doing as much digging as i can find so i have a good idea where to start for this swap. It seems so daunting but others on here make it look so easy.

A junkyard 4.8 ls stock with a turbo can handle 800wrhp and do well over 6500 rpms.

Would rather go the NA route so i will prob be sticking to something with a 4 inch bore. Currently looking for a LQ4 or 9. Trying to find a wrecked fourth gen to pull parts from and now just need to sell off the SBC.
