I have an LT1 converted to carb in my 87 Trans am...

How do you run the accessories???

I can't use the LT1 serpentine system cause I'm running the gen1 balancer and pulley..

I can't use the 88 and up serpentine system cause the LT1 water pump...

It is pretty well accepted you have to run the LT1 only front access drive on a LT1 unless you are into custom fabrication

Do you understand how the coolant system works on a LT1 ?

Have you actually had a look at what you own , compared the pump and block difference between a GEN I and a GEN II (LT1 ) engine ???

A regular SBC has coolant port on each side of the block for the pump , the LT1 has 2 ;
how did you plan to get around that little problem 1st?

I can't use the Lt1 hub...I'm running a carb with distributor on top. I have the front plug that covers where the opti spark used to be.. And only the gen 1 balancer fits on there now.

I also can't use the lt1 accessories cause that system sits further back and I would have to cut my aluminum valve covers to clear the alternator..

I have and want to use my 87 power steering pump and alternator, I was wondering if anyone has done this and if they had pics of it..

Sorry you mis understood, I'm using the Lt1 water pump, it's the power steering pump and alternator that I have to install..

The lt1 water pump is slightly in the way of the v belt for the power steering pump. I know it's possible, just wondering if anyone has done it yet and if they had pics they could share.. Thx

Re: Am I the only guy who has a carbed Lt1???

Grab some lexan and fab a new bracket. The is no off the shelf or simple mod bracket that will fit the lt1

Mix and match accessories only works on SBCs

Use the LT1 accessories and low mount your alternator so you don't have to modify your valve cover. There is a write upon this site on how to do it.

You can't install the Lt1 balancer when using gmpp front plug/opti spark delete cover.. That front cover is made to be used with the 6.75" sbc balancer..... That's the whole problem I'm having with running a traditional sbc distributor on top of the intake.. That's what this whole thread is about..

I like that bracket and that's where I want my alternator.. But you CAN NOT use the lt1 balancer when you use the opti delete cover. The timing tab is in the way. It's made to work with the sbc balancer so that you can time the engine.. Then when u install the crank pulley onto the sbc balancer the alternator needs to sit more forward so that the belt lines up with pulley..

I might be able to put spacers between that bracket and the block to move the alternator forward... I might try that.. Thx fstfbdy for the link... Much appreciated.

I may be incorrect but wouldn't the lt1 hub space the balancer out far enough for it to work?

Re: Am I the only guy who has a carbed Lt1???

sell that timing cover. get a stock lt1 and weld the holes shut like I did on mine. Then fab up a pointer. use all the sock LT1 accessories. Problems solved. Im running a MSD distributor in the boosted LT1 setup. (stock 92 pcm with $59 code for boosted cars)

Why not just run an aftermarket balancer that is the right size like an ATI unit? I know it is expensive at $410, but it will work and you can use all the LT1 stuff and not have to mix and match stuff. Also can probably find a used one or call Jegs and ask what size their 10% under drive LT1 pulley is. Here is a link to the ATI damper at Jegs: http://www.jegs.com/i/ATI/085/917271/10002/-1It has timing marks on it and adds a better damper than stock. I have used it on some LT1 cars and have had good results, but never used it on a carb setup.

Re: Am I the only guy who has a carbed Lt1???

i did mine using the factory accesory bracket and modding it. I have a lt1 ps pump and the lt1 altenator.(dont know if theyre different). a little cutting and shimming and its fairly simple operation.

also I have a normal sbc timing chain cover with a little fabbed cover to cover the top theres no pressure in the little cover that silicone won't seal. with a summit balancer and march pully. The motor gets high revs often and I havent thrown a belt or chewed one up in 5yrs.

Thx east side . I like your set up. I might do it like that..
Btw what intake are you using there? It looks like gmpp.. Was it hard to adapt? Are the bolt angles the same?

Re: Am I the only guy who has a carbed Lt1???

its a gmpp vortec intake. we blocked off the cooling ports and it only uses the outer for bolts..so far no leaks..other than that it bolted right up. I'm thinking of machining the other holes but if its not leaking im not going to mess with it.

Eastside. looks nice. Just curious why you went thru all you did with intake and timing cover, etc. to run a carbed LT1 vs just building a gen1 sbc? Just for rev. cooling and aluminum heads? Something you had laying around?

Re: Am I the only guy who has a carbed Lt1???

Mainly had the stuff laying around my buddy's garage. but overall yes rev cooling is a huge thing but better pistons and rods (stock), better heads, roller motor, overall a better motor in my opinion for anyone wondering some differences. I have a stock rotating assembly, some home ported heads, cam, and that crazy intake and the car will go in the 11's all day. pump gas and never gets over 180.
