What up TGO!? Just wanted to post up about a swap I'm doing for my fiance.

A little background about the car:

It is a 1992 RS Heritage Edition (White/Red stripes) with 114k on the clock. Her father bought the car brand new and gave it to her when she turned 16. She's had the car for 15 years now and the last 5 years it has been sitting in the garage. About 4 years ago it stopped running so I replaced the battery and alternator and got the car to run again. Later I found that it had a constant drain from the alarm system that was installed incorrectly. I pulled the wiring and reconnected the vats properly; problem solved. she drove it up until 3 years ago and after that winter season the car wouldn't start. come to find out the fuel pump was toast. To make a long story not so long, I figured the best solution to fixing the fuel pump would be to throw an ls/4L60e combo in it, lol. Her mom was to the point that she was tired of it sitting and was going to sell it. The GF came to me in tears asking me to get it running again since her father had passed away a few years back and that was really the only thing left of him she had that was tangible. She obviously didn't want to get rid of it so I brought it down from OKC to Dallas on a trailer and told her I would fix it and that's when it hit me. She wants to drive it, she wants to enjoy it, and she doesn't want to have any issues with it. LSX its is.

The car is in great shape inside and out. Yes I know, it's super dusty...lol. It has a few nicks on the lower ground effects and a couple on the door guards but other than that it's flawless. The interior carpet is great, the drivers seat has a tear or 2 in it but those will be getting replaced. The dash pad is in great condition and is original although it's loose, I don't think the mounting points are broken but just need to be tightened down. The radio trim panel is cracked from whoever installed the single din unit over tightening the screws and the armrest lid latch is broken. These will all be replaced as well. I plan on pulling the carpet and dynamating the full car as well as the doors since the panels have to come off to replace the window motors and adjust the window guides/felts. The hatch motor works well but the shocks on the hatch and hood are toast so they will get replaced. other than that everything else is great.

Engine and trans out...anyone need a solid 305 and 700r4??? lol

 

A little 1/8th mile action in my 06 zo6:

LS7 factory bottom end, factory non-milled heads, ported and polished, upgraded bronze valve guides, stock titanium intake valves, SS ferrea exhaust valves, comp 675 lift dual spring, comp hardened push rods, comp/tsp custom grind 246/256 @ .660 lift, Haltech killer bee intake, ported fast 102, ported nick williams 102tb, LG 1 7/8 LT's, no cats 3" o/r x pipe to B&B Bullets, MGW short stick, Mantic twin disc clutch, pfadt motor and trans mounts, stock rear end. 577/552rwhp/tq this was my 1st time at the track in the car something like my 7th pass. Ran my best of the night 7.25 @99.8mph spinning through most of 1st.

The truck is also a friend of mine that we built. It's an 89 with a 5.3 swap, big cam, built trans, 100 shot. We just redid the suspension and haven't had a chance to run it again.

 

Transmission is done...






The engine is almost complete. The plan was to just do an ls1 with the LS Hot Cam, 317 heads/LS2 intake. I bought the motor minus the intake and oil pan from a 98 C5 vette for 750 bucks on craigslist. We tore it down and there was no issues with it. Sent it off to the machine shop with a customers short block from his 04 zo6. My engine build was supposed to be ls1 block, lq9 rods, forged mahle pistons. Well the machine shop mistakenly swapped blocks and machined the LS6 block for my pistons. Told the customer what happened and he was cool with it. He was going to have it rebuilt to sell anyway because we are building an iron block 408 for his car. I paid for both of our machining, let him have my LS1 block as well as bought the lq9 block for his build in exchange for his LS6 block.

Still waiting on a few parts but it should be put together and ready to go in tomorrow. LS6 block, LS1 crank, LQ9 rods, forged mahle LS2 pistons, arp hardware, IWIS timing chain kit, 317 6.0 truck heads milled (same specs as a 243 head) and polished the ports up a little bit, stock 6.0 truck valves, ls3 springs, comp 217/226 @ .575 lift 114 lsa cam. Pulled the exhaust, dropped the tank....12 gallons of bad gas and a rusted out fuel pump and fuel sender later...I figures i needs a new gas tank. I'll be running braided steel fuel line, walbro 255 in tank pump and C5 corvette fuel filter

 

LSX swap radiator came in from entropy radiator. By far the best quality radiator i have seen to date. I am using a similar one from the same company on my ls3 stroker swapped 66 c10. They are hand built, multi core, aluminum radiators made in the USA. Great quality dual electric fans and harness. You may pay a little more for these radiators but its worth every penny. They are direct replacement units that you don't have to modify anything on the car and for ls swaps they move the inlet/outlets to a location so you can stock f-body radiator hoses. I'll get some pics and post up. good for 900hp.

New interior; 2001 Trans Am Seats custom upholstery. These seats are built buy a guy I know in Florida. This package was $1100 shipped. I know that sounds expensive BUT this is what you get. You get front and rear seats with new foam, seat tracks are cleaned and greased, new switches, motors, and wiring for electric seats and last but not least great quality leather upholstery. Obviously the more custom you want it, the more you are going to pay. Unfortunately for me, my order came in wrong after I deployed so He has agreed to wait until I get back home to rectify it. It was supposed to be black leather with red inserts and red baseball stitching for all of the seams w/out the firebirds in the headrests. Needless to say I got firebirds in the headrests and o baseball stitching. Most likely I will settle for a refund on the cost of the stitching and I will remove the headrest covers and swap them with the blank ones he sends me. still for the price it's awesome. on the agenda for this week is to notch the k member to accommodate the f-body a/c compressor (hawks notch kit), put the suspension and brakes on, instal new gas tank, pump, sending unit and run fuel lines.

I bought the '13 camaro SS brake kit from bigbrakeupgrade.com minus calipers and found my own set of red calipers on ebay since they didn't have any in stock when I bought the kit. worked out a little cheaper for me plus I get my core back when I send in the factory spindles! I'm going with Eibach Sportlines and KYB AGX shocks and struts.

I picked up a set of intellitronix gauges and I am anxious to install them. My fiance was a big fan of knight rider growing up and I figured she would flip **** when she cranks the car up and sees the digital gauges.

nice job on the car i bet it was a time consuming swap

 

its not done yet and honestly if we wouldn't have had customer cars, machining time and had all the parts on hand it would take about 5-7 days. thats about average for us once we get everything in. we usually don't have a car more than 2 weeks and if we do its because something is on back order or its an extensive build with a lot of fabrication.

Motor and trans going in today!

 

Well, I thought it was going in today. Ran into a few setbacks, nothing major.

Got the frame notched, the old harness out, motor mounts didn't come in so drive line is going in tomorrow. Got the gas tank built and ready to go in. Going to power wash the engine bay then paint the k member before we install everything.

 

power washed the engine bay, painted the k member, and got my computer in! Hopefully engine and trans will go in tomorrow!

 

Very nice, definitely keeping up with this build. Does your upholstery guy have a website?

 

As of right now I don't believe he does. I actually ran across him on ebay and ended up using him for my vehicle and another customers vehicle.

I have a friend of mine that owns a local audio shop working on a custom enclosure for 2 JL Audio slim line subs where the old gas tank was. Can't wait to make some progress.

Next will be to lengthen the harness to locate the ECU under the dash, wire the gauges, tail/reverse lights, instal the radiator and crank her up...Once she's running then we'll finish out the suspension, brakes and interior.

 

Looks great! I can't wait to get to that point. Hope it screams once you get it on the road...

 

Got the rest of the exhaust loosely installed to make adjustments as needed. Fit pretty well.

Got the suspension done, new front brakes from scott at bigbrakeupgrade.com new shocks and struts, new wheels and tires...next is to swap my wiring harness, wire gauges, wire cruise control, make a radiator shroud, swap interior and instal the stereo system and alarm.

 

What did you do for suspension, I like the rim/tire combo and stance.I got sportline springs and bilstein hd shocks upfront and ak shocks in the back.I find the rear is just way too soft and the front is nice and firm.

 

I like the stance. What are you running for suspension? wheels look tucked in nicely

 

I'm running sportlines with the KYB agx shocks and struts, hawks third gen wheel adapters and 2013 corvette C6 front wheels all around

Car is now back on the street. Finishing up wiring the 4th gen cruise, 4th gen t/a seats, and other interior items. Wash, clay bar, wax, buff, and carpet shampoo. First time the car had this treatment since 2008 and the carpet for 23 years old looks new now. See pics. Will take more in better light.

Looks awesome man! The wax and clamber treatment really brought the life back to that paint. If you get a chance can you get some pictures of the completed engine bay? Maybe a shot or two of the interior as well? Also, I really like those wheels... the color on them is nice.

What did you do for the exhaust? Is that something that you fabricated yourself?

 

The exhaust is hawks lsx swap kit. Long tubes and off road y pipe into 3rd gen borla cat back. Pics of engine bay below.

How did you set up your heater hoses? Looks like the heater core is hooked directly up to the water pump but its hard to tell in the pic.

 

They are stock 3rd gen heater hoses and are hooked directly to the water pump

 

Interior....

 

Do you have a bypass for the heater too? The AC is going to have to work against a hot heater core if you didn't

 

No bypass needed. The a/c is the factory setup, I don't see why it would be any different...???

 

Without the heater control valve the heater core will always have hot water flowing through it. Since the core isn't isolated from the air flow when the AC is on, the cool air from the AC will flow over the heater core on the way out the vents. You can still cool the interior this way but not as easily as you can with either a manual bypass valve or the heater control valve plumbed into the lines.

4th gens get around this by having the heater core isolated from the airflow differently than a 3rd gen when the heater isn't on.

 

It's connected just like factory on the 305. The 2 vacuum lines that were hooked up on the back of the 305 are connected to vacuum on the ls6. A/c is super cold, heat is hot...not sure what you're saying I did wrong. This is our 3rd swap and all work flawlessly....???

 

I guess what I'm trying to say is the a/c and heat are hooked up like they were on the 305 only the power plant is LS.
