Hey guys,

I am new to the LS motor swaps. I have purchased a 5.7l LM7 / 4l60e motor to swap into my 1988 camaro 305tbi/700R4 car.

I am right now doing all the research I can to find ever single part I need to do a budget build. There are a few things I'd like to do that I probably won't immediately - later down the line. Please let me know if I'm missing items or if you have any other suggestions, I am definitely open...

Thanks in advance!
Bryan

Re: Budgeting and Parts list
That's a good start to your list. I started my swap about a week ago so I've made a similar list to yours. You can get a lot of stuff much cheaper than the prices on your list if shop for good deals on craigslist or the classified on LS1tech.com.

You can get stock f-body manifolds used for pretty cheap, would be a much more budget friendly option. There's always lots of guys putting headers on 4th gens and selling the stock manifolds.

LS6 intake won't need an EGR block off. I would try to get a good used LS6intake with injectors and fuel rail. If you want to ensure the injectors are good send them off to South Bay to get cleaned and tested(costs around $125).

You could make your own wiring harness or get a stand alone one cheaper than the painless harness.

Budget a decent amount ($300-500)for misc stuff that you will need like hoses, belt, sealers, gaskets, fasteners...all the small stuff you have to make lots of trips to the auto parts store for.

If you are going to install AC that will add to the cost quite a bit with the cost of the lines and refrigerant.

Thanks for the input. Can you tell me where else you would suggest to get the harness from cheaper?

Re: Budgeting and Parts list
I'm going to be honest, doing a budget build is buying a donar car that's the cheapest way to go with everthing you need and partout what you don't. But you got your motor and trans so the little things are going to nickle and dime you for the most part. But you will still come out on top.

Yeah I looked at that and didn't see a good donor until after I bought the dropout 5.3. That's always my luck. So I'm going to proceed.

Don't fret man that 5.3 will get down in a thirdgen.

Which harness do you recommend cheaper than painless?

Do it yourself and buy an ls1 intake and harness and follow the diagrams Around here. way cheaper and test your skill level.

Making your own is definitely the cheapest route as 89rs454 suggested. If you want to buy a stand alone harness you can get one from PSI for about $500.
