Using Factory LS1 Oil Pressure Sending Unit for Gauge

What are your gauge readings when using the factory LS1 oil pressure sending unit instead of re-using the factory 3rd Gen sending unit?

I've had a hard time finding an adaptor fitting for my factory sending unit. The original one on my 1991 is a 1/4" NPT I believe. I still have the one that came out of my 99 Camaro LS1 engine.

On the drivers side of your pan there should be a fitting with two bolts on it.... You can take that off... drill and tap for 1/8pipe (NPT) and put your stock 3d gen sending unit right
in there.
Hope that helps,
Scott~

Autometer carries the bushings you need to put an 1/8" NPT fitting into the LS series blocks. They arent that expensive... I think i also found them on McMaster Carr/Grainger.

Another option is to destroy the LS1 sender, drill the metal part and tap it. I think Ive seen a few guys do that with success.

And what UR50SLO said is also another option. That'll work good too.

I used a 4th gen (2002 LS1) sending unit on my conversion. It's a one wire connection that goes to your gauge through the 3rd gen harness. I can't help with a comparison of readings between the 3rd & 4th gen senders, but I've never questioned the reading on my stock 3rd gen gauge.

Thanks for the fast replies!

I've got the AutoMeter adaptor now but 1/8" pipe is too small for the new sender I bought from the parts store. Evidentially there are two sizes of senders on the original blocks, 1/8 pipe and 1/4?
