LS1 rebuild or not?

LS1 rebuild or not?
I've been thinking about purchasing a ls1 block and heads for 500 bucks. Heads come with all moving parts and the block just comes with the crank. Not sure whether to pull the trigger or not. Anyone have any advice how much it costs to rebuild an LS1 and is it worth the time and money to eventually swap it into my third gen camaro? Any input would really help

get it you can get a 383 stroker kit for around 800 for a LS motor or all the rotating parts with new pistons for arouns 800 still way under the asking price of a LS motor
just very carfully inspect the block for cracks

Just a quick question for you. Where are you finding a 383 LS kit for $800 or was that a typo? Never seen a price that low for them.

Cost depends on how good you want it to be. Using stock bits it can be uber cheap. Forging can be reasonable or you can spend 5K on a crank alone.

Also I wouldn't trust any shop to build a LS engine especially if the quote you a $500 rebuild special
If block checks out expect to pay at least 1000-1500 on all machine work and labor but your missing rods pistons etc so depending on what route using stock parts or going forged etc price may adjust accordingly it will also change on how much you do yourself also
I paid about 1400ish to rebuild my short block with stock rotating assembly new rings, arp rod bolts, etc just to give you a idea
