4L70E vs 4L60E

I know the 70 is supposed to handle more torque, just wondering if they are the same size/length. I will be going with the 70 in my ls3 swap. Just if they will mount the same. Did some searching and haven't found much. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Re: 4L70E vs 4L60E

4L60E, 4L65E, 4l70E are all the same trans with minor internal upgrades to handle more motor or more chassis weight

Only difference between the 4L65 and the 4L70 is the 70 has a sensor in the pump.

Re: 4L70E vs 4L60E

Hey Pocket don't you have a ford 9 inch with a 4l60e in a car? Was wondering if the stock drive shaft works.

Re: 4L70E vs 4L60E

That would depend on what yoke the 9" has. My Currie 9" has a Strange center with a 1350 yoke. Strange make an adapter u joint that I bought from them to use with your stock drive-shaft. I used it for a few weeks before I bought a custom shaft from them (they're 2 mins form my house).

The one I was looking at has a 1310 series yoke.

Re: 4L70E vs 4L60E

Never had a 9" in any of my cars. Built several 8.8's, always had a local shop make the DS. Wouldnt trust a stock DS with any power. 3rd gen steelies are always out of balance and 4th gen alum shafts twist off with minimal torque

Re: 4L70E vs 4L60E

Ok. I will probably have one made when I do the swap. I am gonna do the rear first. The motor/tranny will be a bit later. Mainly just curious as to if with that set up if the stock shaft will sit far enough into the tail shaft so it won't wear on the bearings. It says they use the 1310 series yoke on the 3rd member. I will have to contact them to see if there is any variance in the length of the yoke they use opposed to the stock set up.

I'd use the 3rdgen aluminum shaft b4 the 4th gen aluminum (if on a budget)

I currently have an LPE 3 1/2 diameter aluminum DS. I plan to run it but I wonder how much abuse it will handle.

That's the DS I run in my car. (700 and moser 9")
Its been mid 11s on street tires (with a bad trans) and gear swap to 200mph.
Undercoating is covered in trans fluid from the explosion.

Did you order a kevlar blanket after that? The sunshell could have done some serious damage

Check...

And it did some damage, came through the floor, carpet, broke radio pod, cut wires, shifter cable and pushed floor pan up 2 inches or so.
Sorry 4 the bad pic, this is looking up (from bottom at the driverside pan after I beat it back in place and welded it up.

Oh wow that is ugly, at your performance level you do need a blanket. So I guess I don't need to worry about my drive shaft, that's good.
