Will my t56 fit on an LS1

I bought a t56 years back off a member, and I have been in love with it ever since. Years later I am older have a little more money, and would maybe like to do a LS1 swap. I Have the t56 in my car with a pre 1986 350 and it works great. I have herd mixed things on weather the t56 will work if I upgrade to an LS1. I think the t56 that I have came out of a 96, I contacted the member tgo to see if he can confirm this but this is what my memory tells me.

You will have to change a few things like bell housing, mid plate, input shaft, and I believe slave cylinder. Possibly a couple other things. I'd sell it and buy an ls trans myself. Less hassle.

Parts need changed as mentioned. If yours works just fine, freshening it up and swapping the parts would be fine. But you might find a better deal with less certain results.

It cost me about $200 to have a shop do the conversion for me, plus $400 for the parts from rockland gear. If you know the trans is good, and is from a 94+ LT1 you can swap. The 93 and early 94 T56s had a different spline count on the input shaft gear where it mates to the main gear in the trans, the kit from rockland uses the later style.

The kit was great, had everything it needed.
