need some advise on chasing the threads in my block
I had to take the heads off my 5.3 to have the broken exhaust bolts removed and now I'm in the process of putting the heads back on. I have been told to chase the threads in the block before torquing them down. The problem is that the only place I can find a M11x2.0 and m8x1.25 chase long enough is from ARP and they're $90 for the pair.
How are you guys tackling this?

Ditto. Its not too bad...but in case you want to see it. Skip to about 2:40 if you want to avoid the updates...
I wish I was going to be at my garage...Ide send you the bolt that I modified.

I still have the original head bolts so I will probably just being a few of those down. I can't see spending another $90 on chasers when I just spent $115 on ARP bolts lol!

Yea it's crazy. I used ls1howto for everything. It's pretty straight forward and it has pictures Haha. Best of luck

I keep a handful of old bolts just for this. The M8 bolts can be chased with a common metric tap. They dont have as much issue with coolant hydrolocking as the headbolts

And this is why I love this forum! Every time I have a question either Pocket or Ghetto chimes in and most of the time Ghetto has a vid to back it up!
I'm just going to flute a couple of the old bolts and run with it since I don't know how often I'll need a m11x2.0 chase. Stupid GM engineers anyway!

Haha glad we can help! This forum gave so much to me when I was building my cars. Nice to help out here and there.
The other problem is getting long chasers. They get expensive quick, for something that (hopefully) you only need once. Let us know how you make out!
