What is everyone using to supercharge the LS in a third gen?

Haven't posted here in a while, and for some reason all my previous posts are gone

I put an LQ4/T56 in my 87 IROC a while back and want to put a supercharger of some sort on it in the future. Swapped in flat top pistons, but kept the 317 heads in case I wanted to go FI at some point. With F-body accessories, what are my options for a centrifugal (preferred) or roots that'll fit under a stock hood? I know there's kits out there for the newer cars, I really just need the head unit and such. Any insight?

Re: What is everyone using to supercharge the LS in a third gen?

Most roots/twin screw kits require an aftermarket hood. I did a mock-up of a LSA SC under a firebird hood and it cleared. Camaro hood are taller so it should fit both

When it comes to boost, its so expensive that a new hood is really not a big deal in teh grand scheme of things

That's true. FWIW it's been a budget build from the beginning and I will probably try to track down a used centrifugal and pullies.

Of course my other inkling is to find 243 heads and throw a big cam in it and make power that way instead.

How much work do those 243 heads need? The more I think about it , the more I just want to do a higher comp build with it.

I'm going to run a Procharger with a bracket from Indiana muscle car on my 408. Should fit under my stock Iroc hood.

This has been sitting since last year. Need headers, tranny, and rear end. Maybe one of these days I'll swap. 6.0, Brute speed blower cam, BTE springs, LS6 with D1SC, brackets courtesy of Indiana Muscle. Justin is a great guy to deal with.

Has anyone tried the C5 Vette ProCharger bracket for fitment? With Vette accessories it sure looks like there is enough room for it.

Re: What is everyone using to supercharge the LS in a third gen?

Another option and probably better in my opinion would be the 5th gen Camaro bracket. Don't have to buy overpriced ALT and PS relocation brackets. Along with an overpriced bracket. Here's is mine mocked up to verify clearance. Procharger also makes a bracket to allow the use of an F1X.

I never understood spending $3k for that when a T76 is a third the cost.

Yep...but not from Procharger,...I did use a C5/6 FEAD right from GM as a kit and used East Coast Supercharging's C6 Vortech 1500 SC kit

That's bad ***. Any details on the build? Probably one of the better brackets in the market. Wish they made brackets for Procharger.

Nice. How much was the bracket and is it ls1 or truck motor?

Good to hear, I was planning to add a ProCharger to my LS3 so I was interested in the C5/C6 kit to go along with the Vette accessory drive I currently have.

Sure... I don't normally post build threads, but this has been in the works for 14 months now and I'm wrapping it up.

It's a Thompson motorsports iron block 408 stroker, 317 heads with a Total Engine Airflow LS6 stage II CNC port job. Howards blower cam,Muscle rod mid length headers backed by a hand built 3" Y-pipe merged to 4" Mufflex single outlet.

Janis built stage II 4L80e out of Akron,OH w/3600 stall billet convertor all out to a Strange Engineering 12 bolt rear end.

That ECS bracket is one well built piece, with it's proprietary tensioner and incredible pulley wrap design, probably the toughest 6 rib set up out there.

Re: What is everyone using to supercharge the LS in a third gen?

If you're going to wind up using the ECS kit, and not running A/C you'll need the compressor mounting bracket, it does not come with the kit and the SC tensioner uses it to allow some adjustability for belt alignment. You'll see it in one of the pictures above.

And I need to mention that this conversion was made extremely easy because of Pocket's harness he made me and his willingness to answer all my mindless questions....even months after he built me the harness.

I found the bracket used for $400. New complete are about $850. I'm going to be running it with 5th gen Camaro accessories on a forged 6.2 LSA block and heads. The blocks are kind of all the same as far as accessories go. Minus the iron blocks missing that extra alt bolt.
